Baseball player Suspended under new

Recommended Posts

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball today announced that Alex Sanchez of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays has been suspended for 10 days, effective April 4, 2005, for violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

He says he will fight it as he claims he has never taken steroids......

not the way to start the baseball season tonight with this news :)

Got thrown under the bus? :)

It's more like the guy is just a dumby. After all the hype on the drug policy the past few weeks, you got to be a dumby to roid up at this point in the season. Sanchez was a dumb player in Milwaukee and not much better in Detroit --- he probably doesn't even realize that MLB is testing for roids now.

He's a sacrificial lamb.....an unimportant player from a nothing franchise being used to appease the growing voices that are fed up with baseball's con game.

I won’t believe MLB isn’t giving a free pass to its stars until they prove otherwise. Let me know when they suspend a star player or someone from a team like the Yankees, Braves, or....ahem....a Giants outfielder.

Aside from being a major league baseball player, and getting paid a million dollars to frolic around soft grass in pajamas, how bad does it suck to suck as a player, then cheat, still suck as a player after cheating, and then get caught cheating and made a public scapegoat for cheating. :)

Guys like Sanchez are the ones who get really hurt (rightfully so) by MLBs policy. Star players, even if they test positive once or twice will get a pass and find teams that will give them a second chance....

However, middle of the road guys like Sanchez who test positive are done. First of all, most will lose contracts due to steroid clauses and, if they don't, they will probably be released so teams don't have to deal with the bad pub.

It will be interesting to see how long Sanchez sticks around now...

You mean to tell me a 5'10 180lb guy is on steroids?  Career 4 HR guy? MLB is ridiculous.

Why would it suprise so many that he would be on roids?

Track stars take steriods to gain speed, why not a basestealer? Steriods isnt ALL about juicing to hit Home Runs.

Exactly. Great point.

People like the Truth Hurts doesn't want baseball cleaned up...they just want Bonds out of baseball. That's what it boils down to.

This should be a great example of the steroid policy working (well, at least better than nothing) since it would have been very easy to cover this up had baseball wanted to maintain a presteen image. Instead people think "He's not hitting 50 HRs so he's not on roids...".

Gimme a break.

Keep in mind that MLB has NOT said that he took steroids, only that he took "illegal substances."

The suspension begins Monday when Tampa Bay opens its season against Toronto, the commissioner's office said Sunday.

Under the new policy that took effect last month, steroids and other performance-enchancing substances are the only drugs to draw a 10-day suspension. Baseball officials and the players' union agreed they would not disclose the exact substance for which a player tests positive.
