FLBillsGuy Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Winston was a Conservative and Clement Attlee, later to be PM was Labour, so they were political rivals. Both were in the men’s room in the House of Lords, Attlee at the urinal and Churchill standing back. Attlee said, “Feeling timid Winston?”. Churchill replied, “No Attlee, when you see something big, you want to nationalize it.” 1
Marv's Neighbor Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 I heard a story that President Roosevelt was trying to reach him on the phone, and he delayed the call because he was watching a Marx Brothers movie, and din't want to be interrupted.
ChevyVanMiller Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Winston Churchill's ability to lift the spirits of the British people in times of adversity were, however, neatly balanced with a sparkling line in withering put-downs. Now Churchill has topped a poll of history's funniest insults with a famous jibe directed at either the socialist MP Bessie Braddock or the Conservative Lady Astor, the first female MP (depending on which version of the story you hear). When accused by one of them of being 'disgustingly drunk' the Conservative Prime Minister responded: 'My dear, you are ugly, and what’s more, you are disgustingly ugly. But tomorrow I shall be sober and you will still be disgustingly ugly.'

DC Tom Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 While Churchill rightfully gets praised for being one of the great British statesmen in history, and a towering presence in history, and one of the premier shapers of the 20th century, it's important, while giving him the laudation he truly deserves, to remember one very important fact: Winston Churchill was stone cold nuts. 1

DC Tom Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Just now, EmotionallyUnstable said: And a drunk, no? Scotch, I think. Probably self-medicating. Not kidding...I'm pretty sure he was a bit touched in the head. Frankly, he'd have to be, to rally Britain after the fall of France. He'd also have to be to proliferate the excessive multitude of special forces (e.g. Popski's Private Army, SAS, SBS, LRDG, Commandos, Para, SIG, etc.) as he did. Churchill was more or less a high-functioning lunatic, for better and worse.

You would know from your conversations with him.

row_33 Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 ————— during his final days, on his death bed, a young lad snuck away from the gloomy gathering and approached him. The child asked: are you the most famous man in the world? The response was “Yes. now bugger off!”

BritBill Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 On the whole Churchill was a pretty poor Prime Minister. However, he got the big (well massive and most important) thing right. This is what he's remembered for. The film Darkest Hour with Gary Oldman playing Churchill is excellent.

LeviF Posted June 4, 2019 Posted June 4, 2019 Story about LBJ: During a press conference, a reporter called out to LBJ and asked him why the US was still in Vietnam. According to legend, LBJ undid his fly and pulled out his manhood, stating "THIS is why!" Supposedly LBJ was hung like a donkey and named his member "Jumbo."
