Google wants to nerf Chromium adblockers

Adblockers will only be available in Chromium to enterprise users

https://news.slashdot.org/story/19/05/29/2227219/google-to-restrict-modern-ad-blocking-chrome-extensions-to-enterprise-users

For those unfamiliar with the difference between Chromium and Chrome:  Chromium is an open source web browser.  Chrome is Google's modified version of Chromium.

Chromium is also the basis for Microsoft's re-engineered Edge browser.  In addition, Chromium is available to most Linux distros.

So basically Google wants to nerf ad blockers for everyone except paying customers of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge

It’s all about money.  We’ve gone so far backwards from the days of thinking the internet was “good” and “free.”

I'm not sure what this means... I would say it's much more realistic to educate everyone that none of this is free and eventually it all needs to be supported somehow.

Consider that one of the major slowdowns I see on internet sites is connection  to google for such things as google fonts google should clean their own house first.

Most of those fonts are now cached because they are used by so many sites.

FWIW, it costs me $2k/year to host TBD/SS. If I didn't serve ads, we would have been shut down 15 years ago. That's just reality.

What impact will this have on one's ability to watch online pornography? Asking for a friend.

Eh, just stick to the midget porn sites, and you'll your friend will be fine.

I use Brave.  It's Chromium based. DuckDuckGo for the searches in private tabs.

Been using it for a while. 99.9% on mobile, my phone.  I just can't find a way to import years of Chrome bookmarks.  Do I need to be on desktop.  Then sync in some kind of way.  I have the bookmarks synced in my Google account.  Just want to get then to the Brave Browser.  The Brave Browser is identical to Chrome/Chromium, with a few different placements.

EDIT:  Oh... The Brave Browser screams, lightning fast over Chrome.

What is the difference between Apple tracking and Google?

Apple is a hardware company looking to sell you phones and computers. Google is a services/information gathering company looking to sell your information to other companies for marketing purposes. I don't think the level of tracking is comparable.
