Tipping Getting Out of Control

I also know a few huge overtippers. With most it is actually embarrassing.  But a couple people pull it off successfully.  But yes, it can get old

LMAO I mean the DP jokes, even back then (when perhaps DP wasn't so well known, this was like 98), were common. DP dough was really just white trash odd flavored calzones  but they are kind of amazing at 3AM.

 

My family member has tipped people to the degree they come back out and ask if it's a mistake, then they make a HUGE deal out of it (cuz he really overdoes it, 150% tip on a couple hundred dollar meal), and I feel like it was at least PART of his goal. I've dropped some tip bombs in my day for the right person but I just write it down or drop the bill, and leave.

After closing the bar in college about 2:30am we went to all all-night diner. We are in the condition you might expect. When it’s time to pay, of the 4 others guys only one paid. Three out of five do NOT pay the check. We are backing the car out of the spot when the waitress comes out and blocks the exit. The ONLY exit. 

 

It turns out the other guy who paid got nervous and paid way too much. She came out to give it back.  And then some drunk guy drove me home. Ahh, the “good ol’ days”! There’s a thread for you!  😂

I have never in my life run up that kind of bar tab, but I did date the barmaid in college. My glass was never empty.   🍺

Similar methods on a much more modest scale used at Gabel's on Hertel Avenue, mid 70s Wednesday 'California Cooler' nights.  Buy the barkeep a beer every time, and all I had to do was raise my hand to wade through the 5 deep crowd at the bar.

I like some tipping. Tipping at the bar and getting a drink on the house is the greatest thing in the world coming from Australia where they are tight and measure every last drop.

 

After 3 drinks, get a free drink and then half glass pours from there on...amazing country!
