Pizza: How Important Is the Outer Crust?

    • It makes or breaks the pizza. A decent pizza can't have average outer crust.

I'm not reading through this entire thread.

 

But the crust is essential. A Brown is correct, if the crust sucks the toppings don't really matter. But I don't believe a pizza HAS to have an outer, unsauced crust. I've had some that have huge outer crusts and were great. Some sauced all the way to the edge, that were great. 

 

But  putting tons of toppings on a pizza has never appealed to me.

  You sir are an artisan.   The crust is by far the most critical element of a pizza.  I do prefer an outer crust that is plain.  The sourdough or Italian taste of the crust has to come through for as many bites as possible for me.  Corn bread sounds appealing.

Cornmeal on the stone/brick makes a great surface for baking the pizza!
