Rolling the Jeep on a flat road in the winter is probably the closest that Jeep ever got to offroading.....

Yeah.  Bumper stickers gave it away.  But the flat frozen tundra ain't to far off from this God forsaken hell hole!

lots of places going to sand mixtures or brine mixture.    cheaper than salt

May be cheaper but I believe most of the reasons is that it's supposed to be less damaging to the metal/steel then salt, I would also assume it's supposed to be better for the environment but also not work as well.
