Over the past 2 seasons he's amassed 922 yards and 6 TD's, and had 400 and 2 last year. Suffice it to say that at 38 years old his prime is in the rear view mirror. And his prime was never that prime. 922 yards in 2 seasons is good output doc. Who’s the guy on the roster with those numbers? Your original statement was stone cold wrong.
without a drought Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 (edited) Signed with Pats. Now we can talk about how bad he is again. Edited May 9, 2019 by without a drought

The other 2 are barely TE 2 or 3's. While our TE room is underwhelming, I can’t believe you, of all people, would be banging the table for a 39 year old TE that was bleh with Drew Brees throwing him the ball. Im glad he’s back with the Pats and not in buffalo. The only thing he’d be good for imo, is texting the kids around the ropes.
Saxum Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26709650/te-watson-join-pats-one-year-deal Veteran tight end Benjamin Watson is putting his retirement on hold, and he's coming home to do it. The New England Patriotsintend to sign the 38-year-old Watson -- one of their first-round draft choices in 2004 -- to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million, sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter. Think him missing NFC Championship Game made a difference in Saints losing to Rams?

RememberTheRockpile Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 The reason the Pats signed him is so Brady has someone close to his age to play with.
Beast Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 (edited) Good leader. Interesting for a year with him and Gore. Good veteran presence is not a bad thing with a young QB. Edit: He’s washed up. Glad he’s with the Pats. Edited May 9, 2019 by Binghamton Beast

Your original statement was stone cold wrong. He's been a middling TE who has bounced-around a lot. My statement was less wrong than you including his outlying career-season 3 years ago with the Saints was disingenuous. And 462 yards a season the past 2 years is bottom half of the league. But more concerning is that his trend over the past 3 years had been going the wrong way and he'll be close to 39 years old when the season starts.

That was easily proven incorrect as he has been productive for the past 3 seasons despite his age. His "past 2 years" have yielded more yards than any of the bums they have on the roster right now. He still had 11+ YPC last year. Edited May 10, 2019 by Mr. WEO

He only had 136 yards in 2014, so he could regress. I hope he regresses at least.

I sampled the entirety of his last three seasons to show his productivity at this point in time.

And it was obviously an outlier and you're not really "in your prime" at at 34 when you're a TE. As for his production that past 2 years compared to the Bills' TE's, big deal. At his age things are trending downward. I'd rather see what the younger guys can do.
