BuffaloBill Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 https://www.golf.com/instruction/2019/05/07/golf-mental-complain-on-course Complaining about your golf game shown to shrink your brain.... uh..oh.... 1
Steve O Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 When I or one of my group has a really bad hole, I often say "Stupid game played by stupid people." Now I have scientific evidence, Thanks!!
WhoTom Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 (edited) Study shows complaining about golf could be shrinking your brain Quote The study doesn’t mention golf specifically, of course, because it’s focused more on the affects of complaining itself rather than where the complaining takes place. 1 1 <sigh> Edited May 7, 2019 by WhoTom
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 As I have stated before, I am at the point I yell “oh no!” at the top of my backswing. 1

WhoTom Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 19 minutes ago, shrader said: Wow, that's pretty shameful. This is one reason why the general public misunderstands science: misleading headlines. For example, Google "olive oil is as good as viagra" and see how many headlines say almost exactly that, which implies that if you take a spoonful of olive oil you'll be sporting wood in 30 minutes. The actual article, however, says, "A study of 660 men with an average age of 67 found that those that adopted a Mediterranean style diet – rich in fruit and vegetables, legumes, fish and nuts, as well as olive oil – had far fewer problems in between the sheets..." In fact, the scientific paper on which the article was based was more specific: "...substituting olive oil for butter..." But of course, nobody wants to see a headline telling them that a healthy diet is good for you, so a "journalist" (and I use that term generously) comes up with some click-bait headline that implies a quick fix, and a million other "journalists" latch onto it. 1

My personal favorite is that they pulled it from a manuscript from 1992. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a re-print of a page filler story they threw in golf magazine 20+ years ago. Ok, re-print's not the right word, but whatever you want to call the internet version of that practice.
apuszczalowski Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 I think having to hear about someone else's bad golf game, or their golf game in general, or seeing golf on tv makes brains shrink......

Lurker Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Now we know why Buffalo / TSW / life in general is such a ****hole. Complaining is a birthright around here...
May Day 10 Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 nothing is worse than having to listen to somebody talk about their golf game

row_33 Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 it's not my thing to stand there quietly and people watching and then judge my shot about 100 times that day.
