"The Raiders took Janikowski with the 17th overall pick in the 2000 draft out of Florida State. Nicknamed ''Seabass,'' Janikowski converted 80.4% of his field goal attempts during his career, including a career long of 63 yards during the 2011 season, the only time he was selected for the Pro Bowl. The kick at the time matched the NFL record for longest field goal made."

Al Davis got this one right.  I remember everyone laughing at the Raiders when Janikowski was their first pick in the 2000 draft.

That’s just Al Davis being Al Davis.  In 1973 the. Raiders selected Ray Guy in the first round, pick number 23.

He ended up being the first pure punter in the Pro Football HOF.

Wait people think he was worth the first round pick? Shirley you can't be that stupid.

You sure about that?  He became the Raiders all team leading scorer back in 2008.

All-time Scoring Leader: Sebastian Janikowski 1,799 points

EDIT:  Okay, dumb point by me.  Apparently I am stupid...and don't call me Shirley.

I tend to agree with buffalobillswin. Being the all time leading scorer as a kicker doesn’t hold much weight to me. Isn’t the Packers kicker their all time leading scorer as well? He will most certainly be the last kicker every selected in the first.

Yep, Mason Crosby.  Fair points made.  The other thing to keep in mind is the 2000 Raiders were a good team that went 12-4 and lost to the Ravens, who ended up winning the SB.

You may as well say he became the raiders longest tenured kicker - most top scorers are kickers

not just a product of longevity though, they just score a lot

id be hard pressed to say he could possibly be worth a first when you could simply pay the top free agent kicker a boatload and still come out ahead with the savings on even an average de, cb, wr on a rookie deal

Look at the Bills list....

5 of the top 8 all time point leaders are kickers.

In a way, it's not too bad of a pick. You get a player that is consistent with their kicks, and being a kicker they never really get too much action, they can last in the league for years as long as the refs keep saying "It's Good!"

And he will most likely go to the hall of fame along with another FG kicker Morten Andersen.

AND

Steve Tasker still can't get in..

Sucks
