Protocal69 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Just looking at the passer rating charts and was wondering how much stock you take in these. Not sure if I’m just looking for confirmation bias on my end but this seems pretty unsettling but at the same time does not tell the whole story I wish I could find these charts on a game to game basis. Hopefully Josh Allen can make a great leap in 2019 Josh Allen https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/2018/josh-allen/ALL529264/2018/all/qb-grid Sam Darnold https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/2018/sam-darnold/DAR466141/2018/all/qb-grid Baker Mayfield https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/baker-mayfield/MAY483453/2018 Josh Rosen https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/josh-rosen/ROS357433/2018 Lamar Jackson https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/lamar-jackson/JAC323395/2018 Mitch Trubisky -2017 https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/mitchell-trubisky/TRU215336/2017 Carson Wentz-2016 https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/2016/carson-wentz/WEN615770/2016/all/qb-grid Bonus Chart- Nathan Peterman https://nextgenstats.nfl.com/charts/player/nathan-peterman/PET071806/season I looked for Mahomes but for some strange reason I couldn’t find one

Alphadawg7 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) Thanks for posting. Interesting reads First and most important comment: This does not chart or provide the most important data, IMPROVEMENT over the season. Taking his body of work is one thing, looking at how it improved over the course of a season is another. And in Allen’s case, he was a different player in second half of season and showed growth in a lot of areas. Thats the hard part about analyzing a rookies “season” because they are growing and developing so much in the early years that analyzing totals loses the context of evidence of improvement or lack of improvement. Reader Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Rosen's is especially troublesome. Average or below everywhere and below average more than the rest of the guys.

Yeah I wish they did it on a game by game basis as well. If I come across some I’ll definitely post. They do the passing and running dots that show completions, incompletions,TD, interceptions on a game by game basis though 7 minutes ago, Reader said: Rosen's is especially troublesome. JESSEFEFFER Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Oddly, looks like that chart does not include the last game against Miami as it is short 3 TD passes and 1 Int. Also, since this is only passer rating, it comes with the flaws of ignoring every other play he made that did not include the ball coming out.
Protocal69 Posted April 28, 2019 Author Posted April 28, 2019 I’m going to see if I can find these charts on a game by game basis at pro-football-refrence

MJS Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Allen was pretty shaky as a passer early in the season. Then he got hurt and missed a few games. Then he came back and showed tremendous improvement as the rest of the season unfolded, caping his rookie year with a great final game. I am not surprised his total numbers are poor. In this case the stats do not tell even a fraction of the story.
