Nightline started with the hostage crisis in 1979??? A one hour show at the most on M-F

CNN has always been 24/7

the point I think KD was making was the advent of CNN was when he real change in news media occurred..Nightline was drawing audiences not previously seen for a "news" show...and was profitable, hence CNN came into existence. Obviously the explosion of cable TV subscribers etc played a role as well, but Nightline was the first new program looked at as a profit center.

And truly the media has had liberal slant since like the 1900s

"60 Minutes" has been around since 1968 and seems to me that it may have been the first news show to be seen as a profit center.

But it's a good point that Nightline and those kinds of shows got into the long format 'coverage' which was the precursor to today's nonstop crapfest.   Fast forward 30 years and they've figured how to literally get people permanently addicted to mindless, phony crap like 'Russian meddling' to keep them tuned in hour after hour.

News networks is now the mental equivalent of porn.

I just wish I could like the guy the media and IC community despises.  LOL.

I hear you, I do. It'd make everything easier -- which is why I don't begrudge that opinion.

The problem is, no one but a guy as ferocious (for both bad and good) as Trump could have survived the coup attempt and public lynching they've launched for the past two years. Even if they had run a boy scout with an impeccable personality, he would have been turned into the boogeyman/nazi/putin supporting traitor. They needed someone who not only could withstand the pummeling, but also someone clean enough to survive the deep dive into his past/life/career searching for anything criminal they could hang on him to oust him. It's a tough combination to find, I imagine.

You've hit the nail right on the head. He's a man with a relatively clean record with a truly mystifying combination of thick and thin skin, coupled with the chutzpah of a Circus Ring Master who loves his country and is a patriot. It took someone like him that had the personality quirks and booming ego to pull off what we hope will happen and put our country back on the right track.

The hostage crisis was huge, they even preempted the NFL coverage for the rest of the day that Sunday afternoon, maybe three times in TV history that has occurred?

They cancelled the first week of the 1978 NFL TV coverage completely for the Pope JP I inauguration, he died like a month later.

and the hostage topic was important for awhile, and the 11:30pm slot was empty for news up against Johnny

but the hotness came to an end and it lasts just an hour at most

not sure when CNN started pretending it had breaking news, that isn't, every 10 minutes 24/7

As well CNN for awhile had balanced discussion, Bob Novak was a Conservative mainstay on CNN along with other right wing views

it all ended when Carville showed up like a braying moron with so-is-your-mama retorts all the time....      :(

Being a truly effective president has nothing to do with "like". Regardless of the horseshit he spreads, he's not only on the right track philosophically but he's competent and moving his agenda forward.

I'm not talking about the direction of the country.  I'm talking about Trump exposing the media and the IC for what they've become.

What does "like" have to do with it?

A football example to simplify things would be if Jerry Jones came out with all this evidence of Bill Belichick conspiring with the NFL to pay off the refs to give the Pats favorable calls since 2001.  I still would hate Jerry Jones as his massive ego and narcissism are still very undesirable characteristics.  It would be much better if Terry Pegula exposed him.

For the people trying to insinuate that both sides live in a bubble...

...numerous social media developers have stated that there is a massive problem of leftists blocking/reporting everyone not aligned to their viewpoint, that doesn't exist on the right. It was part of several Q&A's discussing how they planned to combat MisInformation on their platforms.

These platforms are denying  bias, when it comes to banning, based on the fact that liberals will report a lot more content than conservatives, so it's natural that more on the right get banned.

When google was my searcher it made me scroll down to get access to Drudge or Breitbart, with snide stories on top.

Drudge’s banner was overridden with filler about women accusing Trump of assaulting them

THese are total little bull#### games of liberals...

They already dominate 99 percent of media that I cannot avoid in this world, and still have to play these little bull#### games

Why 2005? Last time the media's confidence/approval/whatever was >=50%: 2005.

For many here, 2005 was like a lifetime ago. It was for me anyhow. It's only 13 years, but literally everything has changed, for me anyway. I believe we were talking Iraq war, and the Surge and stuff like that back then. But, maybe there was other stuff too. Certainly Asian Carp/Great Lakes was on the agenda.

The media's rating is someplace around 32% as I write this...clearly something/many things have changed.

What has changed for you, if anything, in terms of your views on the media? Think a little, please, what were you thinking about then, and how much did the media inform those thoughts vs how much your own work did? Now, how much does the media inform you vs how much research do you do yourself/live TV(or unfiltered clips on the internet) do you watch? Same/less/more?

And, why do you think they've lost 18 points? What can be realistically done about this?

The rise of the right wing media and the increasing oligarchic nature of the political right has led to much more shrill and outrageous assault on the truth. The super wealthy can't rely on the truth to win elections and need to spread more lies, propaganda and anger.

JOEL KOTKIN: The Media Have Already Lost The Election.

It’s far too early to predict which party will win next year’s election, but not too early to announce the national media as a clear loser in terms of national influence and prestige.

Pew reports that millennials have become as negative about major media as older generations, with their rate of approval dropping from 40% in 2010 to 27% today. Gallup tracks a similar pattern, finding 70% losing trust in the media, including nearly half of Democrats.

As Trump backers never cease to point out, the Mueller report undermined the supposedly rock solid case for “collusion.” Whatever the truth, a solid majority of Americans believe the Russiagate brouhaha was politically motivated. Some progressives, like Rolling Stone’s contributing editor Matt Taibbi, believe Mueller represents “a death-blow for the reputation of the American news media.”

Ironically, Trump, the man the media wanted to bring down, was largely their creation. At a party in 2016, my wife and I were regaled by a CNN account executive crowing about the company’s strategy of using Trump rallies, at the exclusion of others, to boost ratings. Once having created President Frankenstein, CNN then tried to keep up the ratings by chronicling his disposal — this worked for MSNBC which, unlike CNN, never much pretended to be an objective network. Today, CNN’s audience share has fallen below not only leader Fox, but MSNBC, Home and Garden, Discovery and Food networks.

Get woke, go broke.

Your opinions are as reliable as what we get from most of the media.
