They swapped with Detroit to get in front of us early in the 3rd, but the Jags took J. Oliver. Right after that NE traded down and we took our RB. We later traded back into the 3rd in front of NE and took Knox who was probably on their radar. 1
billsfan89 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Right position to take but I am not sure I like this pick. Seems like they drafted a developmental athlete type over a more polished player. These types of freak athletes usually are great 5th to 7th round draft selections but for a late 3rd round pick I am not sure. Either way I hope this kids athleticism pans out on the pro-level although I think the impact he will have can be limited in 2019.
Norcalbillsfan Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 I wasn't thrilled with the pick at first, but watching his highlights he seems like a freak athlete and we didn't spend too high of a pick on one of the hype train TEs that went really early. We built the trenches with excellent picks, then got a freak athlete at TE.

I’m just glad they addressed the position and hopefully it was with the right guy.

Understand that this is coming from someone who considers DiMarco as necessary as a third nipple. What makes you say the bolded? I don't recall anything about him being more than a check casher.

Yep, and Beane explained that there were some guys they liked that did not fall to them and that they were trying hard to stick to their board - It happens. Seems like a good kid and I am rooting for him and hope that the ?'s marks around his game can be coached up. And yes, I am glad they went after a TE who can block and provide some kind of passing threat. Excited for this season. Think it is going to be all about teaching Allen that he does not have to do it all to be successful. 1

He was a team captain last year as well. McDermott lives him. I hope that his play improves with more power type offense this year. Though I do think we will see a lot of two tight end sets, so less fullback. 1

I am still a bit salty that we did not move up enough to get in front of the Jags and grab Josh Oliver, and I feel the RB in the 3rd was a bit of a reach where he was taken. The measurables are a head-scratcher, but he seems to be baller when you look at the tape, just think he would have been there in the 4th, but who knows - maybe they had some intel that he was being targeted by another team and he was BPA there for more than the Bills. I was pretty vocal about the guys I wanted at TE and we didn't get them - moving on. I am not such a homer that I will simply ignore Knox's lack of TD's or the catching ratio of 15 to 28 targets in 2018; Those two things concern me and rightfully so. It is not like Beane and Co. never make mistakes (exhibit A. Kelvin Benjamin). It is alright to doubt some of their decisions, does not mean that I do not like the direction overall that they are taking this franchise. Re: Knox, he does have very similar measurables to Hockenson, is a decent blocker in space, and did not come out of a school that is known for coaching up their TE's so maybe the untapped potential is there - sure hands are a big deal for me if you plan to run a lot of spread offense and need to move the sticks in increments. I am not going to do the chicken little thing and say the sky is falling, I love what we are doing with the trenches and I am chill with waiting to see where this goes. The sky is falling!!! But Im not gonna act like it is. It was probably a reach on your board but not on theirs. I wonder what board I would trust. Edited April 29, 2019 by formerlyofCtown 1

I can see keeping Shady around at a reduced role because of the leadership that he's shown, but, even at his age his talent and ability to add to the team's talent pool far surpasses DiMarco. I don't see how he stays on the roster and more importantly I don't see why he would.

I've been talking up the same kids since the CFB season ended, and many before... BillsFan17 Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 Knox is a Beane pick through and through. Will take guys with super athletic ability and super upside despite their lack of production as every other level.

I was banging the table for Harmon rd 3. Could’ve had him rd 4-5-6. They know. I don’t. You don’t. Come gloat when a team hires you Kelvin Harmon will be lucky not to be on someone's practice squad come September... He is so unpolished it isn't even funny... But of course you liked him. -Why? because you don't watch CFB games... More importantly, you don't know how to watch CFB games... Neither does anyone who was ready to take DK at 9 once his shirt came off... The only people that want my opinion regarding prospects are my friends and family. I think Kelvin Harmon is a good WR and has a chance to reply contribute. Unfortunately for him, he’s in Washington. where WRs go to die. Hoping that he gets cut and latches on elsewhere

Walterfootball said they were 1st and 2nd round picks that’s why people were crying we didn’t take them. I’m not sure people realize that joe shmos big board isn’t the same as actual NFL scouting departments boards.

Mat68 Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 (edited) This is probably the most curious pick in the draft. Freak athlete for the position. Seems to be a willing blocker which is important. His movement will be nightmare for safties and linebakers to handle. Big questions how are his hands, and can he high point the football. The scout knick media types love the guy. His college production is nowhere to be found. He could be beast time will tell. His name is right out of a football movie. If he is decent the Buffalo fans will turn him into a cult icon.
