Mark Vader Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) Like last year, the Spring Season of movies ends early as the Summer Season gets an early start at the end of April. Superheroes are everywhere this month, and not much else. Once again, Disney & Marvel have everyone's attention. Last year a milestone was reached in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this year looks to conclude, to a degree, what they started just over 10 years ago. Disney & Mavel present, "Avengers: Endgame". After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to undo Thanos' actions and restore order to the universe. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Bradley Cooper & Josh Brolin. Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo. Warner Bros. & DC continue expanding their universe, as Zachary Levi stars as, "Shazam!". We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM. - this streetwise fourteen-year-old foster kid can turn into the grown-up superhero Shazam. Also starring Mark Strong, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody & Djimon Honsou. Lions Gate presents, "Hellboy". Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. Starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, & Ian McShane. Parampunt presents, "Pet Sematary". Dr. Louis Creed and his wife, Rachel, relocate from Boston to rural Maine with their two young children. The couple soon discover a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near their new home. Starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz & John Lithgow. In the animated "Mr. Link", Mr. Link recruits explorer Sir Lionel Frost to help find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, this trio of explorers travel the world to help their new friend. Starring the voices of Hugh Jackman, Stephen Fry, David Walliams, Zach Galifianakis, Timothy Olyphant & Zoe Saldana. In "The Best of Enemies", Civil rights activist Ann Atwater faces off against C.P. Ellis, Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan, in 1971 Durham, North Carolina over the issue of school integration. Starring Taraji P. Henson & Sam Rockwell. In "The Curse of La Llorana", Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Starring Linda Cardellini, Patricia Velasquez & Raymond Cruz. In "Breakthrough", When her 14-year-old son drowns in a lake, a faithful mother prays for him to come back from the brink of death and be healed. Starring Chrissy Metz, Topher Grace, Josh Lucas, Marcel Ruiz & Dennis Haysbert. In "Penguins", The story of Steve, an Adélie penguin, on a quest to find a life partner and start a family. When Steve meets with Wuzzo the emperor penguin they become friends. But nothing comes easy in the icy Antarctic. Buffalo_Gal Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 (edited) Ok, so I had zero interest in Shazam! until I was forced to watch a Shazam! commercial every five minutes during the AAF games. I also spent a boatload of cash at the at Home store last time we were in Rochester because again, constant commercials during the AAF games... but I digress. I dragged hubby to see Shazam! opening day and loved it! It was such a fun movie. Mark Strong as a villain, Zachary Levi doing more than singing (Tangeled was on the other day), and it all worked because Jack Grazer had great chemistry with both Asher Angel and Zachary Levi. DC has had two good ones the last few years, first WW, now this. I cannot wait for the sequel. I will watch Hellboy when it comes to video. I already have opening weekend plans for Endgame with my son. I'd have waited, but he wants to see it before he cannot avoid spoilers, and his girlfriend is working (or so she claims - she was probably just quicker to figure out how to avoid seeing it). I was going to say there's no way in hell that I'd be caught dead at that movie...but then I had second thoughts. So...what's it worth to you all for me to torture myself with two hours of ice rat footage? C'mon, TBD...pool your money, make me an offer.

Alaska Darin Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I really enjoyed "Shazam!". Such a fun movie.
dpberr Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Who clamored for a Hellboy redo? Was it a favor to somebody? The del Toro Hellboy movies were well done with pretty good actors and they weren't big hits.

I've been waiting to hear anything about that one before making a decision. So we're up to two positive responses in this thread. At this point, I probably won't see it in theaters, if it's even still there in two weeks, but I'm definitely curious. I really hope DC can keep their positive trend going, because I'm far more familiar with their stuff.

The del Toro Hellboy movies were well done with pretty good actors and they weren't big hits. Per Wiki (sounds like a cluster-f from the start): In 2014, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola began work with writer Andrew Cosby on the story for a new film. The project was initially intended as a sequel to Guillermo del Toro's films Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, which starred Ron Perlman as the title character. Del Toro was offered a producer credit, but declined, wishing instead to direct his own script for Hellboy III, and Perlman refused to return without del Toro's involvement. When Neil Marshall joined, it was decided that the new film would instead be a reboot.[17]
Rico Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Just like last year, I will have to choose Avengers opening night over the 1st day of the draft. Best news for me though is that John Wick 3 tickets for next month just went on sale the other day.

I don't think Hellboy was mentioned once in *our* sequels we'd like to see list. You know, the authoritative list Hollywood should be constantly F5ing. ?
eball Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Isn't Breakthrough little more than a Christianity propaganda film? I mean, that's what the trailer looked like when I was at the movies recently. No thanks.
unbillievable Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 Put me in as a vote for watching Shazam on TV/Netflix. It's a fun movie, but not one that requires a theater. It might be better at home. 1

What's most interesting about that movie is that it's being distributed by 20th Century Fox & Disney, and that Pure Flix has no ties to it at all.

Rico Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 Last hour of Endgame was great, but I thought many things were a little convoluted. Going to see it again before my final verdict is in.
Talley56 Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 Surprised Endgame doesn’t have its own thread but I saw it last night and loved it.
