Well I sit and I pray

In my broken down Chevrolet

While I'm singing to myself

There's got to be another way

Take away, take away

Take away this ball and chain

I'm lonely and I'm tired

And I can't take anymore pain

For five long years
I thought you were my man
But I found out
I'm just a link in your chain
Oh, you got me where you want me
I ain't nothin' but your fool
You treated me mean
Oh, you treated me cruel

Chain, chain, chain
(Chain, chain, chain)
Chain of fools

Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise
Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies

And if you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can still hear you saying
You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

Little darlin', it's been a long, cold, lonely winter
Little darlin', it feels like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's alright

It doesn't pay to try

All the smart boys know why

It doesn't mean I didn't try

I just never know why

Feel so cold and all alone

Cause baby, you not at home

And when I'm home

Big deal, I'm still alone

If you see him in the subway, he'll be down at the end of the car
Watching you move until he knows, he knows who you are
When you get off at your station alone, he'll know that you are

Know when you see him
Nothing can free him
Step aside, open wide
It's the Loner

I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant
But nothing
I said nothing can take away these blues
'Cause nothing compares
Nothing compares to you

There is a marching drum

There is a song unsung

It could be your dream

My dream, it's not the only one

I'm a soldier marching in an army

Got no gun to shoot

But what I got is one guitar

I got this one guitar

I am a patriot
And I love my county
Because my country is all I know
I want to be with my family
The people who understand me
I've got nowhere else to go

And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous

I can hear the bullfrog callin' me, oh
Wonder if my rope's still hangin' to the tree
Love to kick my feet way down the shallow water
Shoo fly, dragon fly, get back to your mother
Pick up a flat rock, skip it across Green River

If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.

Cause I love the way you say good morning.
And you take me the way I am.

If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.

Cause I love the way you call me baby.
And you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches to all you tear.

Cause I love you more than I could ever promise.
And you take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.

A quick timeout to share a story of a band playing happy hour at a local bar and doing a rendition of Clapton's Cocaine with alternate lyrics related to:

Propane

Romaine

Rogaine

there was a local bar act I saw in Grand Island years ago with all kinds of alternate lyrics.  Unfortunately, the only one I can remember is "there's a skeeter on your peter, wh@ck it off,  wh@ck it off...there's a dozen on my cousin, I can hear the f'ers buzzin,  there's a skeeter on your peter, wh@ck it off

Yes, does he still perform?  There was also Susie, Susie sit-in in a shoe shine shop...tailor shop.  Saw him once.  Still remember.

No clue if he still performs. Saw him  in the 80's - twice as an undergrad at my college and once with friends post grad, always a fun night. The post grad show was at a comedy club and recorded to VCR/DVD cuz someone we knew rented it and told us our table was in a close up crowd shot, LOL

I hear you're falling again and you're bringing me down
But that's not where I'm going
There's no one around you this time but you haven't noticed yet
When you do, will you speak softly?

I heard he sang a good song,

I heard he had a style

And so I came to see him,

to listen for a while

And there he was, this young boy,

a stranger to my eyes

Strumming my pain with his fingers

Singing my life with his words

Killing me softly with his song

Killing me softly with his song

Telling my whole life with his words

Killing me softly with his song

Looking right through you

She knows who you are

She's got see forever eyes

A spirit obsessed

A vision possessed with universal inner sight

No stranger to love

She's had many men but none of them survived

Her crystal excites so follow the light of her see forever eyes
