Like my father before me, I will work the land
Like my brother above me, who took a rebel stand
He was just eighteen, proud and brave, but a Yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the mud below my feet
You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat

Got me the strangest woman
Believe me this trick's no cinch
But I really get her going
When I whip out my big ten inch

Record of a band that plays the blues
Well a band that plays its blues
She just love my big ten inch
Record of her favorite blues

My girl don't go for smokin'
and liquor just make her flinch
seems she don't go for nothin'
'cept for [suck on] my big 10 inch

Sitting in the classroom, thinking it's a drag
Listening to the teacher rap, just ain't my bag
The noon bells rings, you know that's my cue
I'm gonna meet the boys on floor number two!

Smokin' in the boys' room
Smokin' in the boys' room
Now, teacher, don't you fill me up with your rules
But everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school

It's a big job just gettin' by with nine kids and a wife
But I've been a workin' man dang near all of my life
And I'll keep on workin' long as my two hands are fit to use
I'll drink a little beer in a tavern and sing a little bit of these workin' man blues
Sometimes I think about leavin' do a little bummin' around
I wanna throw my bills out the window catch a train to another town
I go back workin' I gotta buy my kids a brand new pair of shoes
I'll get a little bit stoned this weekend and cry a little bit of these workin' man blues

I said hey hey workin' man workin' man like me
I ain't never been on welfare and that's one place I won't be
I'll be back workin' as long as my two hands are fit to use
I'll get a little bit stoned this weekend and sing a little bit of these workin' man blues

You just call out my name
And, you know, wherever I am
I'll come running (oh yeah, baby)
To see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you've got to do is call
And I'll be there, (yeah yeah yeah)
You've got a friend

Bright light, almost blinding
Black night, still there shining
I can't stop, keep on climbing
Looking for what I knew

Had a friend, she once told me
"You got love, you ain't lonely"
Now she's gone and left me only, looking for what I knew

Mmm, I'm telling you now
The greatest thing you ever can do now
Is trade a smile with someone who's blue now
It's very easy, just-

With a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps
His way into his hat

With a boulder on my shoulder
Feelin' kinda older
I tripped the merry-go-round

With this very unpleasin'
Sneezin' and wheezin
The calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground

Well she was
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night

Billy had two big
Caves for eyes,
With a cliff for a jaw
That would go up 'n down,
And whenever it did,
He'd puff out some dust,
And hack up a boulder
(HACK!)
Hack up a boulder
(HACK! HACK!)
Hack up a boulder
(HACK! HACK! HACK!)
Up a boulder

Black and orange stray cat sittin' on a fence
I ain't got enough dough to pay the rent
I'm flat broke but I don't care
I strut right by with my tail in the air
Stray cat strut, I'm a ladies cat
I'm a feline Casanova, hey man that's that
Get a shoe thrown at me from a mean old man
Get my dinner from a garbage can
Don't go crossing my path

I got a black cat bone
I got a mojo too
I got John the Conqueror
I'm gonna mess with you
I'm gonna make you girls
Lead me by my hand
Then the world will know
I'm the hoochie-coochie man

Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie
We laid rubber on the Georgia asphalt
We got a little crazy but we never got caught

Down by the river on a Friday night
A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight
Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women
Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute
Yeah way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little 'bout love

I lived in a place called Okfuskee
And I had a little girl in a holler tree
I said, "little girl, it's plain to see
Ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me"

She said, "it's hard for me to see
How one little boy got so ugly"
Yes, my little girly, that might be
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me

We walked down by the Buckeye Creek
To see the frog eat the goggle-eye bee
To hear the west wind whistle to the east
There ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Oh, my little girly, will you let me see
Way over yonder where the wind blows free?
Nobody can see in our holler tree

And there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
There ain't nobody that can sing like me

Her mama cut a switch from a cherry tree
And laid it on the she and me
It stung lots worse than a hive of bees
But there ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Now I've walked a long long ways
Still look back to my Tanglewood days
I've led lots of girls since then to stray
Saying ain't nobody that can sing like me
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Way over yonder in the minor key
Way over yonder in the minor key
Ain't nobody that can sing like me

Ain't nobody that can sing like me

When I get off of this mountain
You know where I want to go
Straight down the Mississippi river
To the Gulf of Mexico

To Lake Charles, Louisiana
Little Bessie, a girl that I once knew
And she told me just to come on by
If there's anything she could do

Up on Cripple Creek she sends me
If I spring a leak she mends me
I don't have to speak she defends me
A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one

It's time to go home now and I've got an aching head
So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed
And then I tell her, as I turn out the light
I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight

I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's so wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend

I knew a man that I did not care for
And then one day this man gave me a call
We sat and talked about things on our mind
And now this man he is a friend of mine

Jeremiah was a bullfrog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drinkin' his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine

Watching girls passing by, it ain't the latest thing
I'm just standing in a doorway
I'm just trying to make some sense
Out of these girls passing by, the tales they tell of men
I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on a friend

Tall and tan and young and lovely
The girl from Ipanema goes walking
And when she passes, each one she passes goes ah

When she walks, she's like a samba
That swings so cool and sways so gentle
That when she passes, each one she passes goes ooh

But I watch her so sadly
How can I tell her I love her
Yes I would give my heart gladly
But each day, when she walks to the sea
She looks straight ahead, not at me

See them over there
See them moving down the road
Their arms held out ahead
And their eyes, their eyes are closed

Don't make any noise, cry out loud, or stamp your feet
You'll wake the girls and boys who are walking in their sleep

Every night they throw aside their blankets
Swing their feet down, stand up, and move out to the street
Like they're under a spell and together they roam across the country
And they're walking in their sleep
