I got on a city bus and found a vacant seat,
I thought I saw my future bride walking up the street,
I shouted to the driver hey conductor, you must slow down.

I think I see her please let me off this bus
Nadine, honey is that you?
Oh, Nadine. honey, is that you?
Seems like every time I see you darling you got something else to do

Oh, I hear her voice as the cold winds blow,
In the sweet music on my radio,
Have you seen her?
Tell me have you seen her?
Why, oh, why
Did she have to leave and go away?
Oh...oh...oh...oh...oh...
I've been used to havin' someone to lean on,
And I'm lost, baby I'm lost.

Oh you can depend on me
Over and over... over and over
Know that I intend to be
The one who who always makes you laugh until you cry
And you can call on me until the day you die

Years may come and go
Here's one thing I know
All my life
You're a friend of mine

You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying 'Keep on digging'
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry

I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big fat story, baby
Aw, it's all about my town
Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home

She comes from a town where they call her the woodcutter's daughter.

She's brown as the bank where she kneels down to gather her water.

And she bears it away with the love that the river has taught her,

Let it flow, greatly flow, wide and clear.

Did I forget to mention, forget to mention Memphis
Home of Elvis and the ancient Greeks
What do I smell? I smell home cooking
It's only the river, it's only the river.

Forgot my six-string razor hit the sky
Half way to Memphis 'fore I realized
Well I rang the information my axe was cold
They said she rides the train to Oriole

Now it's a mighty long way down the dusty trail
And the sun burns hot on the cold steel rails
'n I look like a bum 'n I crawl like a snail
All the way from Memphis

Saw the ghost of Elvis
On Union Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of Graceland
Then I watched him walk right through
Now security they did not see him
They just hovered 'round his tomb
But there's a pretty little thing
Waiting for the King
Down in the Jungle Room

When I was walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel?

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis
Pumped a lot of 'pane down in New Orleans
But I never saw the good side of the city
'Til I hitched a ride on a river boat queen
Big wheel keep on turnin'
Proud Mary keep on burnin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river
Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river

Casino Queen
My lord you're mean
I've been gambling like a fiend
On your tables so green
I always bet on black
Blackjack
I'll pay you back
The room fills with smoke
And I'm already broke
And the dealer keeps on joking
As he takes my last token

West Texas cowboys, they's all around,
With liquor and money, they're loaded down.
So soon after payday, know it seemed a shame;
You know my uncle, he starts a friendly game,
High-low jack and the winner take the hand.

My uncle starts winnin'; cowboys got sore.
One of them called him, and then two more,
Accused him of cheatin'; Oh no, it couldn't be.
I know my uncle, he's as honest as me,
And I'm as honest as a Denver man can be.

It's a shame (sha-ame), the way you mess around with your man,
It's a shame (sha-ame), the way you hurt me.
It's a shame (sha-ame), the way you mess around with your man,
I'm sitting all alone, by the telephone,
Waiting for your call when you don't call at all
It's a shame (sha-ame), the way you mess around with your man,
It's a shame (sha-ame), the way you play with my emotions.
It's a shame (sha-ame), the way you mess around with your man,
You're like a child at play, on a sunny day,
But you play with love and then you throw it away

Oh, no, don't let the rain come down
(Ah, ah)
Oh, no, don't let the rain come down
(Ah, ah)
Oh, no, don't let the rain come down
My roof's got a hole in it and I might drown
Oh yes, my roof's got a hole in it and I might drown

Don't let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me
