He was in a federal detention facility, in NY. Calling it a 'NY prison' was inaccurate. As for how a CA federal judge is superseding a NY federal judge, that's a damned good question. The only possible theory I can come up with is that he was actually being held pursuant to the CA federal charges (which he is still awaiting trial), and the NY federal court never actually incarcerated him pending sentencing, following his conviction... which makes zero sense. I do recall that he was initially taken into custody in CA, in the middle of a hearing to determine whether his license to practice law would be suspended, based upon the violations of his release conditions. 1
