Let's not kid ourselves, McCarron is a solid QB2. He somehow lost out to Peterman, but that was vs preseason competition. If McCarron hadn't gotten hurt & started the season, we'd probably have won more games. That means no top-10 pick, and Allen may not have even played. We're in a much better place today because of Peterman winning that job.

Allen taking his early lumps and getting them out of the way last year I agree could be the biggest blessing in disguise, we'll see.

AJ showed with Cincinnati that he can manage a team that's strongly built around him very well, definiteyl an upgrade from Brandon Weeden at the very least

Obviously, AJ is no stud. However, when he started a few years ago for Cinci, he won 2 games, lost to the later crowned SB champs, and almost beat the Steelers in a playoff game; losing only when his RB fumbled while trying to run out the clock. He also won 2 national championships in college. Perhaps , he is just a lousy practice player & shines when the games are on the line.

Yeah, on top of that he very well would have beat the Steelers if Burfict (iirc?) didn't headhunt AB...perfect match made in Oakland

"Shines" may be a tad steep, but I agree with the sentiment.

Rob Johnson is one of the greatest practice QB's of all time.

Peterman over AJ was a huge miscalculation but it ultimately doesn't matter if Allen pans out. We would have almost certainly lost to Baltimore with ANY of the QB's on the roster, traded, or cut. Way too much focus on that one game.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans on Tuesday signed AJ McCarron to be the team's backup quarterback behind Deshaun Watson.

The deal is for one year and $3 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter, confirming an NFL Network report.

I didn't see a signing thread so....

Now watch them get Nate Peterman and AJ gets beat out for the backup job.  Again Lol.?
