gonzo1105 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 This is not meant to be rude to the OP because I’ve seen it posted by numerous people. They aren’t gonna move Edmunds outside anytime soon. It’s simply a comfort thing. You don’t put that much time into a 20 year old making him comfortable at MLB learning the calls and managing the defense to move him to a new position and make him get comfortable at a different position one year later. I get it he has the body type, the speed and size to blitz etc from the SAM position.

I get that a lot of people like to daydream different scenarios for the team, which we hear a lot of (move Glenn to G, now it's move Dawkins to G, slide Edmunds to OLB, Stephen Hauschka for 3-tech!) but things usually stay status quo. Totally agree here. This reminds me of "move Glenn to G!!" I do think Dawkins is different, though. He's an above average-to-good LT, but he'd be a perennial all pro at G. Glenn showed flashes of elite LT play in his rookie year and continued that trend. It never made sense to make Glenn a G, because he was just as good at LT, and we couldn't have gotten better there. It's the same with Edmunds, to me- he's an elite talent at MLB. It's hard to replace that. 1

I've never seen anything posted on this board directed toward anyone that would directly offend me, so none taken. I am simply all about putting the best 11 out there and am interested in both sides to this argument. As we can see, in this thread, there are already people taking one side or the other, or at least stating cases for both sides. I think it's at least a possibility that they only played him at MLB because he was our only legit. option there last year after they let Preston walk in FA, and/or that maybe he played there last year just to throw him into the fire and make sure he was on the field learning in some capacity. Imagine knowing the entire defense inside-out and then moving into an easier position with his raw athleticism.

DrDawkinstein Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Edmunds needs to stay right where he is and keep growing into the cornerstone of our Defense at MLB. And no thanks to bringing back that quitter and spoiled brat Zach Brown.
BillsFan1988 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 We should sign Justin Houston and then wait for the dust to settle and pk up some additional depth players.
Mark Vader Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I still have nightmares of Zach Brown "playing" in the snow against the Steelers. No thanks.

People keep referencing that game, I must have missed it honestly, because I always liked him the time he was here. I get the sense he "Quit" on Rex? He made the Pro Bowl as an alternate the year he was here, and the Bills offered him a contract to re-sign, which they evidently rescinded eventually.

And I dunno what's up with Zach Brown. I know after he left the Bills it took him forever to find a team because his contract demands were well above what any team was willing to give him. He's got speed so he can cover, he's a pretty sure tackler, but one trait that stands out about him is that he slowly fades as the season goes on. Starts strong, then kinda disappears by season's end. Maybe that happened in Washington? I know I saw it go down in Buffalo but I guess I understand as the guy was on a one-year deal and the team was out of playoff contention by November. Some guys in those situations will dial it back on the effort to keep from getting injured so they can hopefully land a better deal once the season is over. ....nicely done......and for a 19 year old kid, thought he was pretty darn good as a rook..............
LeGOATski Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Absolutely not. Edmunds was drafted to be the MLB and centerpiece of the defense. If you stick him at OLB or EDGE, you're actually limiting him, IMO. 2

Sign Zach as a SLB, moving Lorax to that spot edge rusher Why do Bills fans always want to move their young talent around. Edited March 13, 2019 by MAJBobby 1

To me it isn’t necessarily about moving Edmonds as much as having them both on the field together. With those two, Milano and Alexander, wouldnt we have one of the best LB groups in the league, or at least close to it?
Freddie's Dead Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Jeez, we couldn't run both Browns outta here fast enough. Make up your mind, TBD! Jeez, we couldn't run both Browns outta here fast enough. Make up your mind, TBD!
technobot Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Agree with sign/trade for/draft an edge rusher. Let's see how Edmunds develops this year, hopefully both he and Allen take a big leap. You would hope that Edmunds' floor is as an edge rusher, and that we will see hints of ceiling starting this year. But don't give up yet, IMO.
MrEpsYtown Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 1 hour ago, anguskeenan said: Was it that, or we just didn't have one on the team when we drafted him. They got rid of preston and got Edmonds. Zach left the year before if I am not mistaken, and must have just figured they'd roll with preston over Zach, maybe for financial reasons, Preston being on his rookie deal still. Edmunds was hand selected to be the MIKE backer for the next 10-12 years. Z. Brown was talking to McDermott and co about coming back. I believe they offered him a chance to come back and compete and he went to Washington, so they rolled with Humber and Milano at the Will. I don't know why they would circle back to him Zach Brown 2 years later now that he is older to move their franchise guy off the spot they picked him for. Zach Brown has always played inside in a 3-4 in his NFL career, so look for him to wind up in a place like Tampa Bay where they are making a 3-4 switch and have zero linebackers. He's not really a 4-3 mike, and while he could probably be a sam or will, he hasn't really done it.
VW82 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 I get the knee jerk reaction of wanting to try Edmunds at different spots given how bad he looked at times last year, but given our fairly competent, defensive minded head coach traded up to select Tre to be the QB of the defense, I think everyone involved owes at least one more year to try and make this work. 1

He really picked it up toward the end of the season and I see no reason why that won't carry over to this year. 1
