We've had elements of socialism since the 1940's. Social security, federal minimum wage, medicare, medicaid, unemployment. The debate is whether or not we want to embrace and add to those programs or start gutting them.

Please explain how social security is 'socialism'.

It's certainly not capitalism. SSDI/SSI are definitely "socialistic" and redistributive as is Medicaid/Medicare. These programs have been around for quite a while. The debate is really about how to handle these programs, many of which have been around since the 1940's.

Oh, so you don't actually know what socialism actually is, then.

I'm speaking more of the bogeyman version of socialism that's being portrayed. These programs would all quality. You're likely referencing government controlling the means of production and such, which very few understand on either side of the aisle.

Fair enough.

Morning. Early bird too, eh? I’m not debating. I’m taunting. At no point was I debating her. See, it’s impossible to debate somebody who makes up facts.

“I’m a capitalist,” O’Rourke told reporters in El Paso the day after Sanders announced his campaign. “I don’t see how we’re able to meet any of the fundamental challenges that we have as a country without, in part, harnessing the power of the market.”

The fundamental challenges that Beto wants to solve are all socialist programs but he realizes they can't be solved with socialism, they need capitalism to do it. LMFAO.

He "identifies" as Hispanic and posts selfies on social media in which he is in a dentist's chair with his disgusting mouth wide open.

This a-hole is no more sane than the rest of these douchebags.

Bernie has never said being successful is a crime. He's embraced the term socialist rather than fight it constantly of late but he is a Democratic Socialist. Socialism aspects only provide what should be human rights - access to education and healthcare. He believes in the ability to achieve the American Dream. Crony Capitalism and a corrupt and rigged economy is the greatest threat to that issue.

Can you date that quote for me? I disagree with everything in this response but appreciate your attempt at a logical debate. The idea that a core value of capitalism today in America is altruism and not profit and greed above all else sounds absolutely bonkers to me. Profit and greed is the name of the game today. Not helping our neighbors. This profit and greed is what got us here.

You can't legislate away human nature.

Got us here, you mean the greatest country in the world?
