SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Texans franchise tag star pass-rusher Clowney http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/26135304/texans-franchise-tag-star-pass-rusher-clowney HOUSTON -- The Texans have used their franchise tag on defensive end/outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, the team announced Monday. The team used the non-exclusive franchise designation, meaning a team can sign Clowney to an offer sheet once free agency begins next week but would have to surrender two first-round draft picks if the Texans choose not to match it.
CaptnCoke11 Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Figured this was coming. Not that Beane was going to pay him anyway.
njbuff Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Hardly a surprise. Crazy money is going to be spent on a guy who really has made very little impact. 1

I wouldnt say very little impact, but he hasnt been DeMarcus Lawrence. I think he is being wasted as a OLB and is probably more suited as a 4-3 Defensive End. But I wouldnt want the Bills to spend the money to find out. 1
MJS Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Maybe we'll get Ziggy Ansah, although his price just went up with Clowney off the market.

He's still had his fair share of monstrous performances, which have lead many to the same conclusion as you: a bit out of position.. and also consistently banged up. 2
John from Riverside Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Not suprised by it.......and he goes off the list
IgotBILLStopay Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Had to happen - no way the Texans were going to give him Von Miller money and no way were they going to let him walk for nothing.
Dkollidas Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 I believe they were able to tag him as a linebacker as opposed to defensive end as well, which saves them cap space. Smart move by Houston
BillyWhiteShows Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 Mario Williams 2.0....we don’t want another one of those contracts on the books

He wants a contract similar to Mack and Donald. I doubt any team obliges.

Irv Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 With JJ Watt there, Clowney should have way better results. Watt gets manhandled by 2 or 3 guys every play. They can keep him. 1

Yup, big no thanks for me. On top of the injuries, Ziggy will be 30 years old shortly. He was nearly 24 years old when drafted.

I would say very little impact as well especially when you have a BEAST like JJ Watt on that D line
SoCal Deek Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Wouldn’t it be nice to have Shaq Lawson be franchise tag worthy?
