Wasn’t a fan per say but when I was in high school this show was enormously popular with all the teenie boopers.

 

Some argue this show killed modern music.  After Kobain died these sort of calculated acts all got big

Look at interviews with teenage girls about Elvis or The Beatles. Arguably better music, but the same hysterical fans that care more about the image/popularity than the music itself. This has been going on forever. If TRL was around back then, we'd have the same thing.

The only thing I know about Carson Daly is that Earl J. Hickey really turned his life around after listening to the show in a morphine stupor. Karma.
