PS re my post above - Hogan played 63 snaps (88 percent of all plays) and only came out for the late td drive when McDaniels went with the heavy 2 TE set to get the rams out of nickel (and then proceeded to pass it 4 straight plays down to the 2). He played in 93 percent of the snaps vs the eagles and in 97 percent vs the Falcons (more than anyone besides brady and the o-linemen).

That is because in almost all pass plays he is a designated blocker past line of scrimmage first and catcher second.  It is similar to role with Bills he had unless he was not taken seriously by defense and then would make play after play.  I watched replays of plays of game and the Rams were careful to keep him covered but they should have spent more of game planning of Edelman.  Have not been able to hear from Wade and why he was open so often.

Hogan has always been so overrated. But he did not get a single clean catchable ball in the SuperBowl.  Maybe that was him not getting separation, but Brady did him no favors either.  For as awful as Goff was, Brady was not much better.  The seam pass to Gronk was a good ball but even that one hung a little.  He put a few passes in the turf and the INT was a misread.

He's completely dispensable and probably will be dispensed of this offseason.

Brady really doesn't throw the ball outside the numbers very often or very effectively anymore. The Pats are not going to invest heavily on an outside receiver at this point.

The Hogan aspect of this is the least important takeaway. Brady’s arm is declining? Hmmmm....... Do say......

Totally agree.  He is IMO in the perfect offense for his skills as a WR.  If he cannot make it in NE, and 35 catches in that offense is not enough, I do not see him making it with any other team.

2016 with the Pats 58 targets for 38 catches

2017 with the Pats 59 targets for 34 catches

2018 with the Pats 55 targets for 35 catches

He's doing what they want. 35 is plenty, or they'd have gotten rid of him before. They don't throw a lot to their outside guys. He isn't making a ton. They might keep him or let him go but it won't be because he suddenly hasn't been doing enough.

He got what he needed, which was more than we had to offer him at the time. More money, suberbowls,  great coach, and TB throwing to him.

yeah good for him.  such a good choice he made.   same for Woods, Watkins, Goodwin, that whole receiving crew needed to get the h-ll out of B Lo and they did it and are so much better off for it.

We should have never tried to get him on the cheap, and he did perform at NE for awhile.  I wouldn’t want him back as we have much more attractive URFA out there this year if not resigned by their respective teams.

Yes, his catch numbers aren’t what people should be focusing on. He is almost always a leader or one of the leaders in terms of offensive snaps outside of Brady and the o-line. He does a lot of other things in that offense.

Had to get out of QB purgatory.  Hopefully things are different here now.

Bingo.  Hogan is on the field to block first, catch the ball 2nd.  In almost every long run by a Pats RB you can see Hogan downfield effectively blocking a safety or corner.  I suspect that the NE Offensive staff could tell you how many yards over the course of a season Hogan's blocks ADD to a RB's run.  And I would guess we would be both surprised and impressed by that number.

This is what blows my mind about our hatred of Belicheck & NE - we need to stop hating them and start demanding that the Bills organization embrace & mimic their style.  Hogan has a role to play.  It's clearly defined by the NE staff and he's doing it.  And Hogan will stay on the field & on the team until NE either finds someone who can do it better or they change their scheme so they don't need what Hogan does.  But for now Hogan is doing what they want him to do to and it help's them win football games.  Belicheck has a system and he sticks to it come hell or high water and the results are there for all to see.

Goff certainly was bad.  He left two TDs unscored because he didn't get the ball quickly to wide open receivers.
