BillyWhiteShows Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I have boxes of old sports cards. Most from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s. Everything from baseball, to football and some basketball too. The thing is a few year ago I looked up the prices of the cards I thought were valuable back in the day and each card was worth like .01. Not even exaggerating. An entire box set I had was going for $6.00! I highly doubt anyone would even want to pay for such low value cards. Sowhat am I supposed to do with old trading cards? I would love to sell them but it doesn’t seem like there’s any market. Right now they are collecting dust. Is the only option to throw them away or sell them for pennies on the dollar?
Buffalo716 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Give them to your kids. Maybe they will be with double in 50 years ?
RaoulDuke79 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Burn some to keep warm and put the rest in the spokes of your bike and ride around your neighborhood like a bad ass.......with a helmet of course. 3 1
Another Fan Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I took most of mine to the local dump not that long ago. There were some cards I saved though for example Bills players and anything semi valuable.
IslandBillsFan Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I'm in the same boat. I have a ton of cards. All my "valuable" cards are in one binder. Probably about 40 cards worth $5-10 each last time I looked about a year ago. I figure if I sold em I could get at least $200 but selling by the each would be a pain in the butt. Who knows.
unbillievable Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I've found that the most popular collectibles are usually the items that existed during the childhood of the current retired population. You've got a large population with disposable money with nothing to do but remember the good ol' days.
RaoulDuke79 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) This reminds me when I first got the itch to gamble when I was around 12 or 13 years old. Me and my buddies were all big card collectors so we bough packs and boxes of cards. Naturally we ended up with tons of "commons" and needed something to do with them so we came up with a game called flicking. How it worked was we all put up an ante, a decent card worth a few bucks and then picked or placed a random object in the room. We then sat or stood in a designated location and flicked our commons at the target. Whoever got the closest, best of 3, 5 or 7 or whatever got the pot. We also had games where whomever hit the object automatically took the pot. Good times all around and the beginning of my journey into adulthood. Edited February 1, 2019 by RaoulDuke79
Jay_Fixit Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Run around your towns seedy underbelly and fling them around at people as if you’re Gambit. 1
row_33 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Maybe there is rhe next Honus Wagner or Mantle rookie card in there, never know.

RaoulDuke79 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Just now, BillyWhiteShows said: Who will buy the common cards? Nobody.......they are worthless. Everything around mid to late 80's and beyond was mass produced and are worth nothing. I have thousands of them sitting in my basement along with hundreds of comic books that aren't worth the paper they are printed on. I think @Jay_Fixit suggestion may be another viable option if you want to get some entertainment value.

Otherwise, keep them and hope so many people think they're worthless, that they become rare from people throwing them away.

row_33 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Billy, they are worthless. I once tried to sell four mint condition Guy Lafleur rookie cards for a friend. Every shop I entered had at least one for $150 on display. couldnt have made $20 with them, it was a dirty and lowdown business and ***** everyone who ripped people off
Another Fan Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Unless there of sentimental value to you I kinda don’t see the point of keeping them
row_33 Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 This worked a decade ago for a colleague.... buy into a bake sale or flea market thing that is for very rich people whose kids will insist on buying your cards for hundreds of dollars....
mrags Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Late 80s to mid 90s cards are almost completely worthless. Either sell them for a half a tank of gas or give them to your grandkids and tell them to save them for their grandkids. And maybe their grandkids will be able to pay for a full tank of gas 1
