If I wanted to build a team long term, I'd take Mayfield over Barkley because of the position and longevity, but there's no doubt that Barkley is going to be amazing for a while. He's a special back.

Exactly. Barkley is already performing at elite levels regardless of experience in the league. Mayfield was impressive as a rookie, but not compared to veteran QB's. If Mayfield plays the same for the rest of his career he'll be a disappointment. If Barkley plays the same he'll be elite.

Statistically, Mayfield had a pretty darn good year, veteran or rookie

The top 25 includes the current QBs....

Wow a rookie QB on a team with a single win in the past 2 seasons before he got there couldn’t,  despite a record tying 27 TDS (in 12 starts) “get them to the playoffs”??

Hot take tight there

He broke the record for rookie TD passes. Manning and Wilson had 26.

Barkley is a legitimate pick, but far from a no-brainer pick. Stats are nice. Barkley is a great player, but Mayfield performed a high level in a more important postion, and basically turned around the hopes and dreams of a franchise.

this!

I think both Mayfield and Barkley are the future faces of the NFL, along with a couple others of course. You could make a viable case for either or.

and hope Allen is part of that group.

Mayfield was my favorite rookie QB going into the draft - had a super rookie season

But Barkley earned it.

Two good choices and both excellent candidates IMO
