iinii Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Who exactly is staying one step ahead of Belichick? The writing for the Super Bowl narrative looks pretty clear. The heavy Patriot O line should be able to run on the lighter DLine of LA. Oops..... And that bit about Belichick not drafting well is a bit flawed IMO. Sony Michel, first round running back, had a great season. Drafting running backs early is soooo bad.

Bingo. Belichick is the most accomplished coach in the SB era. Better than Halas, Lombardi, or Shula? No. Belichick has been able to consistently fail at drafting without consequences. Why? A once in a generation QB masks his coaching mistakes. Please see SB 52 where NE is blown out without Brady. Or see the AFCCG where Belichick's defense gave up 31 points iwithin 15 minutes. All the credit goes to Belichick for keeping KC scoreless by half. Yet, he gets no blame for that pittiful D in the second half. Oh, he also cheats. 3 hours ago, IgotBILLStopay said: nice article. no doubt Belichik has been the ultimate contrarian. that said having a hall of fame QB who can get you a 5-7 yards on demand will always make you look good. I dont think we will ever have an answer to the Was it Brady? or Was it Belichik? debate. See SB 52 and the AFCCG in KC.

Year after year the Patriots seem to get multiple compensatory picks for losing players to free agency. Teams like the Bills seem to get none. I thought of this when the Bills waived Benjamin prior to season's end. Waiving him sent a message but simply deactivating him on game day and swallowing a couple game checks would have resulted in his contract expiring and the loss of a 1st round type player against the compensation system. Now the Bills get no credit under the system. The smart teams in the league figure out how to acquire additional picks. The Bills figure out ways to lose draft picks, via what you mentioned or my other favorite trick: trading UP in the draft.
