Many people pumped up the signing talking about what a great pass rusher he is, so a lot of fans expected 12 or more sacks out of him. I got blasted by a couple posters for telling them that he is only an average pass rusher and we shouldn't expect him to be this dominant force that they talked about. But I still think he is an effective pass rusher and can get some hurries. I think he'll stay, I just know we need more of a pass rush so want to sign somebody else too. 2
Philly’sFinest Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Not a fan on paying for guys who have shown the inability to stay on the field. I’d rather spend more on a guy who you can count on 3

I think our edge player is going to come in the first round of the draft and the rest of the resources will be spent on offense. i agree. i think they should look to do the best they can with picking an edge in the draft.....or if they hit on a penetrating dt high then look for a gem edge later. i think we'll be fine at end with rotating shaq / murphy and lorax. i also like yarbourgh in rotation with jerry. i think vast improvement can be made by being more creative.....but frazier's an old dog so hopefully mcd instills some more influence in that area. 1

I’m scared of the Clemson Edge rushers. Rashaan Gary? His best fit in a 4-3 is 3 technique Polite? Ehhh...... I’d feel better about drafting him if we trade down. Sweat? Ditto, Ehhhhhh. Don’t see him BPA. I wouldn’t take any of those over Oliver. If Bosa or Josh Allen were in play I’d grab a DE. I don’t know if any of the other ends are worth the 9th pick. I'd love for them to be zeroed in on Ferrell. This guy is going to be the real deal IMO. Remember that Cal QB nobody wanted because his predecessors failed? What's his face from the Packers?? Don't like Gary or Polite that high so Ferrell's availability/how the FO evaluates him will determine quite a bit. I'm starting to get a nagging feeling they'll take Gary. I'd rather go WR/OL if they don't like Ferrell or he's not there. We definitely need to add an athletic edge rusher whether it be through the draft or via FA'cy/cuts. Ansah is just so meh.

I'm with you on Ansah. He'll get some sacks but he doesn't put pressure on the QB consistently throughout a game. I don't know how we get one but I'd be willing to spend in FA or a high draft pick on someone that gets after the QB. 1

Its one of those deals you can do on the rookie QB timeline....... Speaking of that rookie QB timeline. If Allen has a breakout season, you will be giving him a new contract a lot sooner.

He’s made good strides the last couple seasons, but if he’s deemed worthy of top 10 $$ for DE (which he isn’t), there’s little to nothing left to spend adding a FA of value here, imo. I think he knows his play is underwhelming, but it’s not his fault Rex’s kid was his college roommate and he’ll be getting a nice 2nd contract from somebody. Lol what? Do you watch college football? Shaq was a projected 1st rounder with or without Rex's kid. Are you a moderator?
noacls Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) No, is probably too old and he has had some injury concerns Edited January 27, 2019 by noacls
C.Biscuit97 Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 Not worth the money. Whens the last great pass pass rusher the Bills drafted? Dareus has 10+ sacks in a season buts it’s hard to count DT as a pass rusher (besides Donald).

Bruce Smith was the last great one. QB's and pass rushers. That's what it's all about. We took a shot on a QB and hopefully he's the guy. Time to get a top pass rusher. 1

If Allen becomes that franchise QB, you would make him wait out his rookie deal? Wouldn't it make more sense to lock him down as soon as possible? Edited January 27, 2019 by PromoTheRobot

Mario Williams and it ain't close. Nearly 40 sacks in 3 years pre-Rex. But Schobel was a good player

The guy was on pace for 6 sacks with a fairly heavy rotation at the position. The talent is there for what he is making. $7 million a year isn't going to buy you a double digit sack year in and year out guy in today's NFL. Should never have been the expectation. Can he stay on the field, that's the real drawback with him.
