unbillievable Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Not since they took 8 tries to find a vein.
WhoTom Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Working on my 22nd gallon. You can donate a pint every eight weeks - about six times a year. I started in my senior year of high school when the Bloodmobile came to the school. I admit, my reason for that first donation was less than altruistic - it got me out of class for a couple of periods. The other 169 times were for a better cause. 2
Cripple Creek Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 I am unable to myself, but I used to. Another consideration is donating plasma. Some incredible things are done with human plasma. 1

That was quite the accident you had”. ”Nervous, edgy, and frustrated, doctor, despite all the good reports...and I don’t know why!” <<< >>>. “Ah, here it is...you received three pints of blood donated by a Bills fan”.
Gray Beard Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Once a year. They have blood drives at work four times a year, and I generally participate once.

Augie Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 I did play rugby in college, so there’s that.....they even have a bumper sticker for it “Give Blood, Play Rugby”.
RaoulDuke79 Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 I've done it from time to time in college. The last time I tried my iron levels were too low an I was DQ'd.
Keukasmallies Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 (edited) I'm in for over 150 pints at this point. Interesting story about my first donation in 1959. I was in the Navy, standing in the payline and as I approached the pay officer a Marine "guarding" the proceedings asked me if I wanted to donate blood that day, I said no thanks. He had his partner "escort" me to the end of the line; after working my way to the front for the second time, he asked me again. Being a fast learner, I said, "of course.." After all those donations, the worst part of the process is when the phlebotomist pricks your finger for a drop of blood to check your iron level! Edited January 27, 2019 by Keukasmallies 1
Just Jack Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 Used to donate regularly when I worked about two blocks from a donation center, so it was easy to just go after lunch and do it. I did figure out that if you gave right after the New Year, you could give seven times in one year, as long as you kept to the schedule of when you could donate again.
LeGOATski Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Almost every 4 months. They call me a "hero." ? I'm O- so I feel obligated.
The Senator Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Used to - now I have an iron deficiency and get regular infusions of the stuff to keep my hemoglobin normal. That, plus have too much morphine and oxy in my system. .
WhoTom Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 You never know where it could lead... https://www.sunnyskyz.com/good-news/3198/Woman-Learns-Blood-Donor-Who-Saved-Her-Life-Is-Her-Husband
IslandBillsFan Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I used to donate fairly regularly about a decade ago. In recent years, I have donated less. This is unrelated to me donating less more recently, but there is an interesting podcast by RadioLab which explains the blood business. Out of memory, many blood donation companies actually sell the blood to healthcare facilities. Like most modern donations and charities it is a big business. Here is the link: The donation portion starts a little after the 46 minute mark. I may give it another listen to see if I am recalling this right. https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/308403-blood
apuszczalowski Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 I have always had a pro lem with their slogan around here "Blood, it's in you to give" No it's not, it's in me to live, I can spare some though
