Sister is looking to get a beach vacation in with her family early May this year. They want to do the Caribean but have some limitations.

Chief amongst them is her husband has limited mobility so looking for a place that is easy to get to the beach from hotel/accommodations, easy to get to/from the resort, etc

Two would be something that is under say $450 a night for the hotel, with reasonable food options either on-site or close by.

Three would be some things for her college ages kids to enjoy too

Ideas appreciated!

I used to fly there all the time, all over the Caribbean, and vacation there as well, but take my view for what it's worth.

I've provided this same recommendation to others, including my son.

The bottom line is what facility you stay at, and what they provide.

Beaches are beaches.

If I had to choose, I'd choose Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

I would avoid Jamaica or anything in the US Virgin Islands. Jamaica is the least "revisited" island destination.

But again, if you found the perfect situation, who knows?

A guy I work with just got back from Curacao.  He stayed at a Marriott -- says their pool/beach area was awesome.  He went to check it out at 10:30 am and didn't get back to his room until 6:00 pm.  He had nothing but compliments for the place he stayed at.  I think the price, this time of year (two person room) is about $350/night.  He's traveled all over the place, including Caribbean.

I just stayed at the Melia all-inclusive resort Nassau. It was nice. Well under your budget. A great casino right next door at the Baha Mar.

Funny.  I loved Negril, Jamaica and hated Punta Cana.  That being said, we tend to stay on the resort for the most part.  The beaches are much nicer in Jamaica, IMO.

My wife’s cousin here in Atlanta is married to a lovely lady from a very nice family (a/k/a wealthy) in Jamaica. Every time it comes up she warns: “Do NOT leave the resort if you care for your well being. ”

Oh, I’ve seen enough there to be able to confirm that sentiment.  That’s why you stay on the resorts with the beautiful beaches and endless booze/food.  Go snorkeling.  Maybe a booze cruise.

Hell, I had a taxi driver rob me at knife point in the Bahamas.  A lot of those Caribbean islands are sketchy.

Well, THAT is encouraging! We are heading to a destination wedding In Nassau in a couple months. We will try to blend in with the masses, but a cab sounds like a safe place. Guess not....

A college buddy went to the Bahamas shortly after graduation. Got caught up in a little scheme to buy some weed from some kids who then turned himin to the cops who busted him to take what little cash he had left. It’s like the Wild, Wild West down there. Beware.

Plezmd daily takes a booze cruise. He gets in his car with a cold twelve pack of beer and drives around the neighborhood until the cold pack is completely consumed. However, he doesn't act like a red neck because he doesn't throw the empty beer cans out the window. He, instead, frugally keeps them and gets his deposit back for a nickel a can. Plezmd may have his faults but he is very conscious of the environment.

I will tell you that I have NEVER been sober enough to see @plenzmd1 drive drunk. He has a large enough posse that he farms out the driving with those who have been far more responsible than myself!

But to be fair, I think he may like the nickel almost as much as the environment, unless it’s a “cash nickel”. He much prefer a Venmo penny.   ?

Through rigorous training Plenzmd has built up a high tolerance for booze. He can easily handle what most experienced drinkers can't handle. He is what you call a paradox. For a person who can maintain his sobriety even when his consumption is tremendously high he still isn't sober-minded when he is completely sober. If you don't believe me just ask him about the hockey trades he proposes. You will quickly come to the conclusion that he is either out of his mind drunk or delusionary.

You are so drunk that you are drowning in your suds and don't realize it. Check your health care plan because I'm sure it covers the cost for the help you need. :)
