That's the spirit! Getting a good coach is essential. Adding more talent to the roster is even more essential.

Mix, let sit for four years and Mittestadt will be a viable 2nd line center when healthy.

Note:. To this point it looks more like talent will be removed rather than added; but fear not, we signed a 14 year old kid from Finald we can make excuses for until 2027.

You are a cloud on a sunny day. You are depressingly depressive. You strive to be miserable. Congratulations on your inspiring outlook.

If you see this as a sunny day era for the Sabres we will have to agree to disagree on that point.

We agree that we'd like to see them win.

When did I say that this is a sunny day era? You are creating your own fictitious reality to justify your somber outlook. Are you the type of person who goes to funerals to be uplifted? I don't mean this in a mean-spirited way but you are one depressing hombre. You are an unbelievably miserable chap.

You’ve had Mitts in your crosshairs for a while now. Why the rancor?

What are our other first round picks in ‘19 going to be?  Looks like a really good C will likely be available at 7.

I agree we are gonna get a good prospect at 7 but not one who I think will play right away as those 18 year olds are rare. I’m hoping for Turcotte, but I think he may go earlier. I’d be happy with Boldy as well. He’s a left winger, but is versatile and will be a solid top 6 player.

Seems like a lot of US kids among the top prospects.  That is awesome.  Are we going to have 2 or 3 first rounders?

Yep. A lot of great players coming out of the US development program to be sure.

We have 2 first rounders. Our own pick at 7 and the lesser of Sharks/Blues after they finish, which would be 30 or 31.

Both of the teams we traded with are playing each other in the conference finals, which is the absolute worst case scenario for us. Draft pick position goes by the regular season record until teams make the conference finals. So had STL lost in double OT against Dallas, Buffalo would have got pick #19 from them. Instead now we get pick #30 or #31 (31 is the last pick in the 1st).

Thankfully we traded one of the picks for Montour (#28 or 29). We get the other.

I said this in the playoff thread, but I’ll say it again. I still think it is just unbelievable that both teams we traded with made the conference finals. As I said, that was the disaster scenario at the time of both trades. That it actually happened feels like a perfect example of buffalo sports luck... lol

Me too. I have never been less interested in an NHL playoff final 4.  I don’t really want to see any of the teams win it. Definitely not Boston or Carolina.

If ROR were not in STL I would totally root for them to win. They entered the NHL a couple years before Buffalo and have never won a Cup yet. But, screw ROR.

I guess I am rooting for San Jose. They have never won a Cup either, and a bunch of guys on that team deserve one.

I have little issue with Kane (outside of the accusations against those women). He actually really wanted to stay in buffalo and said as much. It’s not his fault the Sabres didn’t even attempt to negotiate with him.

Plus, Logan Couture is a big Buffalo Bills fan.

and Brent Burns randomly showed up at a Bison’s game a couple years ago, stayed to party in buffalo and spoke highly of the city.

He's afraid that he is going to be good and spoil his naturally bleak narrative. ?

The pick from the Blues could have been as high as 17 if both wild card teams would have advanced in the west. Got screwed in both game sevens!

Well, things are bleak currently. I can understand the pessimism after eight years of perpetual suckitude.

But Casey Mitts is the least of our issues. He belongs in the league and is progressing on the same track as a lot of other currently good Cs did after one season at 19 and 20 years old. If anyone was expecting a McD, Eichel, or Matthews, they had totally unreasonable expectations.

My comment was about the Sabres and you replied.  It makes sense that your reply was also about the Sabres but I guess it was about the weather.

Also if you read my posts about the Bills you will find them generally upbeat.  I find it difficult to be non-somber about the Sabres.  Several horrible teams have leapt way forward over the last 5 years as happens every five years.  Meanwhile the Sabres and you keep advocating waiting another 5+.  Seattle will make the playoffs long before the Sabres.

Actually I was reiterating your narrative that he needs enough time to cash his first social security check before he develops.

If you are so tormented and aggravated about the Sabres then just take a break from them. There's nothing wrong with taking a sabbatical from masochism.

If you believe that I am advocating waiting for five plus years for the Sabres to be good then you are off the wall crazy.

I, along with tens of thousands of others share your somber outlook about the Sabres and I think we are more than justified. Especially, as you point out, when worse teams have bypassed us in half the time. That points toward ineptitude from ownership on down. Can’t blame you at all. It’s a totally fair outlook.

If Mitts doesn’t show incremental improvement over the next couple years and doesn’t arrive after that, then I’ll have to agree with you. Until then though, he’s developing as expected. And again, on par with some very good centers at the same career stage.
