Cook: '70s Steelers are guilty like Bonds

Sunday, March 27, 2005

By Ron Cook, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

It's so easy to look at Barry Bonds as a fraud. We don't like him. We never liked him, going back to his first season with the Pirates in 1986. We don't want to believe he hit those 73 home runs legitimately or that he'll ever be the true home run king no matter how many more home runs he hits than Babe Ruth and Henry Aaron. It has to be the steroids.

But it's a lot harder to come down on the Super Steelers. They were our heroes. They won four Super Bowls. They made us proud. It wasn't the steroids. It was all talent and hard work. That's our story and we're sticking to it.

You know what?

We're hypocritical as heck.

nice find i dont really have a problem with football players using steroids as much as baseball players.might sound like a double standard ,but in the 70's steroids werent banned in football.in football you really need size.in baseball theses guys knew they were cheating big difference! go bills in'05

Thats why Steroid use in Football is 100X worse than use in Baseball. Football is a contact sport. Steroids, For one make you bigger and stronger, But they alos have been shown to make you more agressive and Violent.

Steroids have always been known as cheating. The only difference is that they were not illegal back then.

IMO, It takes alot away from those teams. Now when I think of the best teams in NFL history, Its the Steroid Free Pats, and not the Juiced Steelers.

Yeah, the Pats are steroid free. Sure they are. <_<

Every team in the NFL is cheating. If you don't believe that the only one you're lying to is youself.

Well, by that logic you shouldn't have any problems with Bonds, McGwire or Giambi either. Since baseball didn't ban steroids until last year.

Now that Congress sees steroids as a "hot topic" which they can use to get their own mugs on the front page, they will be chomping at the bit to "clean up" the NFL. It will get ugly...and soon.
