Why would anyone write out checks and mail them today? It is both time consuming and postage is expensive. Mail people gotta eat too, ya know...

We lost you in the first sentence! PLUS, I offered you $50 CASH money for a $30 debt, and you refused! How are we to take your financial advice on anything? You should work for the government! Now, I will have you know I have this Venmo garbage, and fully expect to have my related credit card compromised, my credit ruined....and complete financial devastation as a result. Thank you! Rather than a cardboard box, can I live on your back porch? I get $100 at a time from the ATM and it lasts forever. It’s 99.9% credit card transactions. BTW, most places that say they have a minimum amount for CC sales are in violation of their Merchant Agreements but are trying to keep their merchant fee rates from rising. lord you are old and cranky!!!! Come live on the porch..been out there all day today !

I gave to all but one, and I skipped him because I was down to one $20, and I didn’t want to have zero cash. It still bugs me. I used to ring bells when I was younger and learned that when I had my cute young kids with me I got probably 10 times the donations. More money and the kids got to see something positive. At least I didn’t have them making shoes in Vietnam.

SlimShady'sSpaceForce Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 For the most part I use a debit card. I take some cash out to spend on lunches (to keep a budget on what I eat) 1

What do you prefer cash, checks, credit cards, crypto-currency or phone based pay mechanisms? I ask simply because I am in an airport where the restaurants force you to pay on card. It does make it easier for the staff as they don’t have to make change for anything. However, I suspect it also drives up the tabs because there is science that shows when you use plastic you will spend more. Thoughts? Simply give me your cash and you won't have any decisions to worry about. trust me 1
boyst Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 samsung pay - benefit over apple pay is it isn't owned by the terrible company of apple. another benefit is it will work at any nearly any credit card machine even if not set up for it. it just makes the reader think it's a credit card going through with the nfc chip. i seldom carry my wallet anywhere these days, in fact. i have my phone with me and took a picture of my insurance cards and license, that if in a pinch, would be of assistance since i seldom carry my license/wallet. i generally odn't have cash and if i borrow a dollar it could be a month before i come across one to pay you back.

Use a credit card in some form 99% of time..person to person payments all Venmo now..trying to get some of the old farts on this board like @Augie or @ExiledInIllinoisto get Venmo was like pulling teeth. I get $200 out of ATM when i get cash..i would say lasts me about 3 months now on average 6 I will say you are always willing to lob it up there, waiting for the smash back. You know I cannot do that to you though. ? (I don't have to since I see @Augie beat me to it. ? ) 1

Wasn’t Jerry Springer an elected official in Cincinnati who wrote a personal check fior a hooker? Where’s @Seasons1992 for important info like this? KD in CA Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I wish you had made the poll so you could choose multiple options or with some type of allocation. It's hard to imagine not having multiple forms of payment at my disposal. Cash for certain things (paying babysitter), hot dog at the ballgame, etc., but can go a week or more without any in my wallet. Credit cards are the dominant form of payment for daily expenses. E-payments for recurring expenses like mortgage, credit cards, utilities, etc. Checks only for a small handful of expenses (eg, cleaning lady). Phone payment apps to pay individuals (family, drug dealer, etc) 1

Leave no record, and for the convenience if your babysitter IS your drug dealer.
