One thing I will say about centers, I really like Mitch Morse, Paradis, and even Nick Easton.

I think we go after Morse as a Reid guy as there is familiarality there. He is also a very tall center at 6-6, which doesn't work for all quarterbacks, but would be fine for Josh Allen.

Easton I like as well. I think he winds up with Pat Shurmur and the Giants.

I think Paradis goes to to the Jets or stays in Denver. The Jets are the team with a center need who have more cap than us. Colts don't need one.

If if you miss out on Morse I think you are okay with Bodine if you sign two really good guards. Quinton Spain and Mark Glowinski come to mind. There is enough money to sign both.

At tackle you go after Daryl Williams or Josh Wells.

Btw, people who want to draft an offensive lineman in the first round, look at the guys we are talking about giving good money to.

Paradis - 6th round

Morse - 2nd round

Easton - UDFA

Spain - UDFA

Glowinski - 4th round

Daryl Williams - 4th round

Josh Wells - UDFA

Its all about finding the right guys and developing them, not reaching on guys to fill holes.

I have no problem with them overspending...as long as you are getting a quality starter.

When you sign to many Charles Clay/Trent Murphy type free agents is when you get in trouble. They chew up a lot of cap space without getting much in return.

I don’t think anyone here desires or even suspects Beane will go full Redskins and make some stupid signing that blows up their cap in 4 years. At least I haven’t seen that opinion expressed here.

It’s hard to pretend to evaluate another teams Oline. It’s hard enough to make yourself watch our own. There are guys available that are widely considered upgrades. My hang up is which of our own lineman do we think are good? I seldom agree with personnel decisions made by Mcd. If I was the GM, I am at least upgrading both guards. I might be the rare person that is ok with Bodine. I think both starting Guards need to be changed. Much more physical, run blocking guards. I would even probably be ok with thinking Dawkins can be that guy, moving him inside and getting a Cornerstone LT. If the only returning starter on the Oline next year is Dawkins, im cool with that too. There are a lot of ways it can go but I would say at least 2 starters need to be brought in.

You’re ready to give up on Teller after what six games?

I like Morse too but note he has had a few concussions...KC have cap concerns so I think he will be available,,

I agree that they need to develop guys as well but these late round guys require a year or two time to ripen  and Josh needs the help now.,

What do you think of Saffold in FA? Also any later round Center and Guards caught your eye to draft?

Add depth in positions of need.  Maybe over pay for who the best FA lineman is in their eyes.  Overall Buffalo needs to revamp the roster.  They could add a player or 2 to every positional group outside of qb.

Can someone define judicious, please?

Having gotten rid of Wrecks, even if that was a hit on the Pegula M&T bank account.  (The official bank of the Buffalo Bills.)

The funny thing with KC is that they claimed Austin Reiter off waivers in September and he played well in Morse' absence. He was available to us and we didn't put in the claim, and he is better than anything we have in the interior. But I digress, Reiter actually signed a not so bad contract extension with KC already. I think they really like him and are going to let Morse walk. Jordan Devey is another journeyman type guy who played well for KC and is going to be a free agent.

I think you you have to be concerned with concussions with Morse, but he's such a massive upgrade that it is worth the risk. Maybe there are incentives put in there and insurance policies etc. having a solid backup like Bodine helps alleviate the risk.

Saffold is going back back to the Rams imo. I mean he's been there his whole career and had a ton of ups and downs. He's finally having some sustained success. He even came out in the media and said he wants to stay and would give a hometown discount to to Rams. Aaron Kromer did wonders for him. We should have kept him around. Great coach.

I haven't dug deep enough at this point into the draft, and I do like a lot of the guys talked about, I just don't like them in the first round outside a trade down of some sort.

I know you’re not allowed to say this on here but McDermott was here 2 months and Beane was in Carolina when Hyde and Poyer were signed.

Those guys were McDermott picks. The secondary is his forte. When he came that was his #1 priority.

Brandon Beane indicated that the Bills would be judicious in their approach to free agency this year and I think this is the right approach. They have "taken their medicine" and now have the ability to spend at will, but if they were to do that we would end up back in salary cap jail soon enough. The Bills just went through "bankruptcy" and their debts have mostly been discharged. Now what? Do you stick to a plan of spending wisely and staying in budget or do you go right back to overspending and put yourself in debt.

By all accounts, the 2019 free agent class lacks higher end talent and has limited depth. The market would indicate that average free agents will be significantly overpaid in such an environment. Some fans remember years ago when the Bills had some cap room and decided to spend a significant amount of it on Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker. This is an example of being desperate to just fill a hole and willing to pay much more than the player is warranted. A few bad contracts like that and we will be backed up against the wall on the cap in short order.

As it stands now, the Bills could be tempted to spend big on average talent but it is much better to take the judicious approach Beane has talked about. Players like Hughes and Mccoy will be free agents after the 2019 season. They will have to be resigned or replaced. Those are easier decisions given their age but what about players like Dion Dawkins, Matt Millano and even Zay Jones. They have 2 years left before they hit free agency. Jordan Poyer also has 2 years left before his contract expires and what about a big ticket player like Tre White. A decision will have to be made on him after the 2019 season as to give him the 5th year option. It's around this time that extension talks will begin to avoid the franchise tag. I'd like the Bills to roll over some of the cap savings rather than foolishly spend it on average talent this year. The Bills have an opportunity to keep the space and begin signing and rewarding their own talent. Talent that fits with the locker room and schemes we run. I believe this is what Beane has in mind so let's hope he is able to remain diligent and execute this vision.

Thanks.  This is a nice analysis of how I think the will handle the off-season.

They want to grow young players, so they're going to be careful signing older free agents.   The kind of guy I'd expect to see them spend on is a guy drafted in the first or second round coming off his rookie deal, a guy who underperformed his draft position.   A guy McBeane scouted and wanted in Carolina, a guy they know is an athlete and who buys into the process.

People here will complain that they're signing busts, but that's not what they'll think they're doing.   They're looking for guys whose pro coaches didn't challenge them the right way to get them to perform.

I think when Beane talks about being judicious in free agency, he means he wants to find his superstars in the draft.  FA superstars are premium priced - and don't always work out.

Beane mostly wants to use his cap money for solid - if not spectacular - starters and depth players.

With roughly $100 mil to spend, though, I wouldn't be surprised if he went after one big name free agent.

Buying talent on the free market is expensive and often doesn't work.

It can work, but solid teams are built through drafting depth.

I agree with your first statement, but you kind of contradict yourself with the second. This team needs solid OL players right now. Sign the FA's that you think are going to step in and make a difference from the beginning. The draft is such a crap shoot; if you get two starters from a draft your doing great. We need four at least. (OL and WR) get best skill position available in the 1st and 2nd round.

I'd throw big money at Matt Paradis.  Not sexy, but bolstering the o-line is my biggest hope for free agency and/or draft.  Give me Jonah Williams at LT in the 1st and move Dawkins to the right.  I'd be optimistic to say the least.
