Scoring problems

McDermott is in an interesting position at this point.  Hanging onto a Whaley hold over in Zay Jones has not helped anyone.  Over paying on Star and Murphy instead of putting it into offensive linemen knowing Richie, Wood, and Glenn were gone.  Along with finding a starter in the mixture or reliable tightend puts it offensively in a mess.  Allen is not inaccurate and honestly Daboll catches to much flack he’s found weak spots in defenses and Zay is proving why Doug Whaley is a castoff now working for the XFL.

If you think, Whaley was responsible for drafting Zay Jones, I have some news. He wasn't.

This is way off base. McDermott and the former Bills' WR coach from ECU are responsible for Zay Jones being in Buffalo.

Haha, Whaley was responsible for Zay??? That’s hilarious.  SM hired Zay’s college coach and they traded up to draft him.  Just like he drafted Rocky Proehl’s son because he was friends with him.

The Bills had a top 10 offense under Whaley.  He built a receiver core of Watkins, Woods, Hogan, and Goodwin.  All this thread made me do is what to bring back Whaley.

also fun fact, Josh Allen is the type of QB Whaley would have loved.

Those who claim Zay as a Whaley pick are the same types who flat out believe Buddy chose EJM because Nix said he wanted to get a QB before he left.

Still, personnel evaluation has been underwhelming since McBeane took over in 2017.  There are already some questionable draft picks, the trade for Benjamin, and poor decisions with free agents (signings and those leaving).

They need a flawless 2019 off-season.

Whaley set the table and was responsible for the scouting and McD pulled the trigger and made the decisions.

Beane had nothing to do with that draft, even though it did produce some good players.

Beane has nothing to do with the draft now except get SM his Red Bull’s and give him foot rubs.

To be fair, they have been pretty good with defensive moves.  But that makes since because a defensive coordinator is running our franchise.

Beane sets the table and is the final shot caller with input from McD

So you believe SM is going to defer to a guy who he helped get the job?

For the most part, yes.  McD has stated that Beane makes the final decision with all player personnel moves.

--According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network , Beane will have control of the 53-man roster but will work closely with Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who has been at the forefront of the team's biggest personnel decisions this offseason. The two worked together for six years with the Carolina Panthers, so it's not difficult to envision a healthy working relationship between the two.

That working relationship is the main reason to be encouraged by this Bills hire. Beane doesn't have experience as an area scout, but he has handled a variety of roles in football operations over the last 19 years with the Carolina Panthers. It's noteworthy that he'll control the 53-man roster, but the majority of NFL general managers control the 53. It would be naive to think McDermott's hands won't be all over every decision this team is making. Now Beane and McDermott (or should it be McDermott and Beane?) will have to put a scouting staff in place. For two people who are first-timers in their new roles, Beane and McDermott have to surround themselves with quality talent evaluators and front office people to make this operation work. The Bills clearly don't want Beane to be a general manager in title only, and Beane likely wouldn't have gone for that anyway.--
