Barkley is a great QB2. Def no threat to Allen, more than ok with his role, and has been a guy who can win a few games and not throw never ending interceptions.

plus he really seems to be a good teammate, a team first guy and he and Allen seem to really like each other and have fun with each other. Like when Josh finally started following him on Instagram lol:

I think what you’re describing is the backup qb for 75% of the league or better. I’d also like someone a little better than Barkley, but we could do worse (as we’ve seen).

That's what your development guy is for. Anderson signs on as a coach and we draft or pickup a young QB that needs time to develop with a big upside.

Good move! Josh Allen has said many times how much Barkley and Anderson have helped him.

I say re-sign Anderson to a similar deal and focus on other areas going forward.

Anderson should only be brought back in a coaching position if they feel he really helps Allen. He is not worth waiting cap space and a roster spot on to just be a mentor. Let him "retire" and give him a coaching/mentor position.

Still would have liked to see him play at least 1 more game to see what he was

Perhaps sitting JA 3-4 weeks to start next year would give us that swatch.

Love this!

Now draft David Blough in the 5th round and the QB position will be set.

define "love"

I like using the word 'salsa.'

I don't see anything wrong with calling a vet QB a mentor for a rookie. When I was new to my profession, the old-timers mentored me. As I aged, I became a mentor for the youngsters.

i just wanted to go with the seinfeld reference

It just seems that's the big thing. Every QB signed or considered was thought of as a mentor. The assumption is that they are all good mentors , they get all the praise, no criticism, unlike the actual coaches.

Hope we keep Derek Anderson too

I like Matt.  I think he is the perfect process player.  If you watch Allen's sneak, he jumps up and down in celebration.  That's the kind of support I want from my backup QB.  Plus he played well in his only game.

larger than small? LOL. But really, This is putting us in better position next September....Huge.

Barkleys is a relatively interchangeable backup qb. If he counts as huge I’m not sure what’s minor

Ok so who do the Bills sign instead?

This guy is happy to be here.

He  knows his role and wants to work with Josh.

They also get along which is absolutely necessary for team chemistry.

Interchangeable? why would you risk it?

Congrats Matt I am glad you inked a new deal with the Bills.

Didn’t read through the whole thread but I gotta believe this is because no one, and I mean NO ONE... ok, except maybe Walter White... cooks a better meth in Bills royal blue than Jesse “Matt Barkley” Pinkman.

I’m not anti the move or anything.... just surprised by the reactions. He’s a fine enough backup qb. I just like to leave some room to get even more excited about guys that will hopefully take a snap.

Pretty much where I'm at. I assume the contract is structured so we can cut ties if and when there's an upgrade we prefer. In a perfect world Barkley collects his paycheck holding a clipboard for two years.
