Have to see what form this takes when finalized. Could be just a grab for government money without a chance of any benefit for the public in general. Also, if this is just an attempt to ramp up localized production then I will express my doubts as to success. Those not familiar with economics and in particular commodity trading will not see that the state cannot control production. The reason being is MJ will grow just about anyplace corn will grow which can be done in many places in New York and outside of New York. Don't matter what type of restrictions are placed on non-New York produced pot as consumers will seek out the least expensive options. Some states have talked about having licensing to grow MJ but all that amounts to is a revenue stream for the state without really controlling the overall supply. Iron Maiden Posted January 12, 2019 Share Posted January 12, 2019 Pot has been legal here ( Washington State) for quite some time ( 2012 ).....I don't smoke it myself, but know several people who do.....I don't think it changed a lot of things as far of quantity used.......when it 1st became legal, you probably had an increase of usage just for the novelty..... my pot smoking friends do complain about the legal weed being more expensive, but in general, they also say that the quality has improved.......I really don't see it as a big deal.....I see pot the same way I see booze....from what I hear however, you don't such a hangover after a night of smoking....maybe I should look into it..... 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Depends on what the state laws are. Legal does not mean it is legal to grow unless the state encodes it. This is not about personal liberty for Cuomo but in part about a revenue stream of which home grown does not provide. If there is a provision so you can grow your own don't be surprised if you have to pay some kind of tax or fee to do so. First time I went into a store I was completely impressed at the range of products and the knowledge of the people who work there. Tell them what you need it for - everything from pain to just wanna get high - and they can made spot-on recommendations. Yep it's a lot more expensive than the illegal stuff but it's pure and not loaded with stems and seeds. You don't need much. I had a visitor from Rochester here who wanted to see a pot store. Went into one down near the Port Angeles waterfront. I knew the expectation was a smelly, smoky place full of wild-eyes hippies with crazy hair, LOL. I had to laugh at the disappointment. I have friends who grow it and there are new jobs in old mill towns due to it. Other than that I can say that it hasn't disrupted anything here in WA that I've seen. The real fights are coming from pharma and other corporations who want in on the action. No surprise that Constellation Brands has jumped in. Therefore, the prohibition on marijuana is illegal and not a law that I bother to acknowledge. If the crime is victimless there's no crime. I've been thinking about it, but am having a hard time thinking is any product that is not overly regulated. Food? Ladders? Baby pajamas? Automobiles? Beer? (Ever heard of the ATF?) Wood? Furnitue? I've heard of the ATF, and one time I was outside in my baby pajamas eating chicken wings and drinking beer while climbing my ladder to paint the wood trim on my house. I took a selfie and can prove it. But that's not really the point, is it? my response was in regards to the narrative that republicans want to control people's lives but that legalizing/regulating marijuana is liberating us all from the nanny state. Chef Jim was more direct and 100% correct. For what it's worth, while I don't believe the narrative that smoking weed is harmless, when NY sorts this all out I've pretty much decided that I'm back in again for recreational use. I've long believed I'd much rather see my children smoke marijuana than fire down shots of Shnumpernagelz or whatever is the hot shot today. When I think of the nanny-state I think of the government telling you can't do something and punishing you for it if you do because they say its bad for you. They removed locking you up for it. May be over regulated. But I see it as an improvement. No different than alcohol ? really. It's taxed. When you go to the store it's labeled as to alcohol ? by content and you can count on if it says it is 40 oz it is 40 oz. You're not gonna walk out with 40 proof wood alcohol.
