I wasn't thrilled, but I've come to terms with it.  I like that we got a top notch closer out of it.  Now I'm reading that they're working on a 3-way trade that would send Thor to the Yankees, with the Mets ending up with Realmuto.  Mets haven't had a good catcher since Piazza.

Yep, just read about that. As a Yankees fan, I'd be thrilled, but let's see who they have to give up. Realmuto is very good.

Joe Namath was the most famous football player on the planet in the late 1960's.  He played stylishly, effortlessly.  His release resembled the tongue of a snake.  He forced the NFL to take the AFL seriously, when he whooped their fat arses in the '68 Super Bowl.  If Joe Namath weren't in the Pro Football  Hall of Fame, they could not call it the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

There guidance is that entrance is based on stats. He threw 50 more interceptions than TDs in his career. Even his 4k yards season had more ints than TDs. He started hot and faded fast. It's not the Potential Hall of Fame.

You should look at his advanced passer rating, which compares like to like. Most QBs threw more picks than TDs back then. The link is above.

Also worth noting when looking at his stats: note the Advanced Passing rating, for which 100 is league average for that year. When people look at his passer ratings, they compare them to today's stats, which is completely wrong. Namath was above average every year except one before his decline phase really set in in 1975. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/N/NamaJo00.htm. Prior to those three seasons, teams he started for were 56-44-4 too.

I am not crazy with taking on Cano's contract which is a bad one but.... I love the fact that they also acquired Diaz.  He will help shore up that bullpen.

This would be a typical mets trade.  Give up one of the best power pitchers in the game, to their crosstown rival  in which they have him under control for three more years.  I know they need a catcher but I don't think weakening your starting pitching is the answer.

Agreed, & the defense had way more to do with that Super Bowl win than Namath.  His stats were a very ordinary 17/26, 206 yards, 0 TDs, 0 Ints.  He rushed for -0- yards that day.

all you need to do is on December 11, 2018 find out someone named Joe Namath and look up his stats

from that you can tell me everything important about his entire career and existence

Go and ***** yourself right now

I never seen Joe Willy play as I was born in 1973.  So that may have something to with why I don't think he was very good.  I will say Namath is most certainly in the conversation of the most overrated players in NFL History.  The stats are the stats & the stats suggest, he was a sh*tty QB playing on a .500 team with a few good years sprinkled into the mix.

No need to throw out insults just because we have a different opinion tough guy, being as it is the Christmas season & all.

PS:  I also think Lynn Swan & Terry Bradshaw are overrated.

His resemblance to Joe Namath on the field.  The way he walks to the sidelines.  The way he runs the huddle.  His release of the football.  His touch passes.

It's strange but I've seen many Broadway Joe games and Sam has that look!

Cano was very good when he played this past season: OPS+ of 136. That's an elite-level season for him (his very good lifetime average is 127).

I have a bad feeling about Syndergaard's ability to stay healthy, which is why I'm okay with trading him for someone like Realmuto.  I'm a huge Syndergaard fan, too.

Yeah I know, but he is 36 & he is still owed $120 mill I believe.  I know Seattle threw in some money but that is a big contract for an organization that is notoriously cheap at times.

I know, that is where I struggle with Noah but...man if they deal him & he goes on to have a great career, I don't know tough call.  If they do deal him, I really hope they don't deal him to the Yankees, anybody but them.

Have the Wilpons finally dug themselves out of the Madoff hole they ended up in? If so, they're a major market team and should be able to open up the checkbook a little. IIRC, they weren't cheap before the financial crisis. They won the Beltran sweepstakes (and he was a great signing).

He was smashed when Suzy Kolber asked for his analysis on the sideline during a Jets game. All he had to do was be sober and say something basic and stupid to Suzy. Instead he made a solid move on her on national television.

"So Joe what do you think about the Jets this year?"

"I want to kiss you. I could care less about the team struruggulin..."

Joe Namath is the worst football player to ever make the Hall of Fame. Honestly, he probably shouldn’t even be in the Hall of Fame.

I used to think that way until i really realized some of the things he did. Having a 4000 yard season in the 60's was absolutely insane. The arm strength and way he threw the ball was amazing.

And the league wouldnt have became what it did if it were not for super bowl 3.

One of my favorite Brett Favre quotes after his teammates were ribbing him for his movie performance.

"Hey Frank! How many movies have you SUCKED in??"

Should be Peterman's line to all the armchair haters out there. Own it and be proud you sucked in something not many get the chance to lol.
