H2o Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 I could see McCarthy landing in Jax as HC. Daboll has work to do before he gets a HC gig.

If you have a shot, you take it

Its an organization id stay away from

Some guys that wouldn't previously have been considered deserving will get hired, but I'm not sure that will include Daboll. Check out my post in the Green Bay thread. Offensive minds are at a premium right now, and Daboll is an offensive mind. Allen is starting to trend up and has been brought along the right way. Jax likely will break in a new QB next year. Daboll has a great pedigree. I’m worried about the Jets getting involved with him, but Jax makes a ton of sense, too. I will not be surprised at all if we have to look for a new OC in mid-January. 6 minutes ago, Cheektowaga Chad said: My thinking comes from two areas 1.I think highly of daboll and believe its a matter of when not if he becomes a head coach 2. But if somebody offered me $15 to $20 million and a shot to work with a young QB on the East Coast, I would take it.

Chris66 Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 In this new nfl. If you have a decent oc you better make him a head coach. If you dont someone else will. The bigger question will be all the newlynfired dc coaches where will they end up

He gave Chris a job in Jax, after working for Chris in Indy. So that’s a bit awkward. I guess I find it odd that Caldwell would be out, but polian would stay. He’s basically his asst GM. i could see Caldwell being out, Bortles was his guy, and his power has been diminished since Coughlin got there. But just not sure how aware Allbright is on the tangled web here.

I think he wants out of Jacksonville and wants to go be with his boy Mike Maccagnan. They Jets hired their coach and GM separately, which obviously is dumb. I believe that Marrone is the guy Mike Maccagnan wants to be his head coach. If Marrone isn't fired he will probably quit anyway to go to the Jets. I seem to recall that Marrone had some time as a coach w the Jets......

The GM would be run out of town on a rail. The Jets are going to play to the media & hire a big name like one of the Harbaughs or McCarthy. They're not bringing in a rookie coach again unless they feel that Darnold needs continuity and promote Bates. 2 hours ago, K-9 said: Oh, I don’t know. I just can’t see Marrone choosing to simply quit and walk away for another coaching job. I think they will have one of those mutual "parting of the ways" and I truly believe that they can spin everything to be Blake Bortles' fault. Marrone gets out of this thing clean in my opinion because his quarterback blows. I think the media and such see a good coach who has been let down by his ***** quarterback, who he did not draft btw.
PirateHookerMD Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 (edited) I have to think that Daboll wants to build this thing. He moved back to WNY for his family and I doubt he would be chomping at the bit to take that Jacksonville job. Have Terry give him a raise and I doubt he leaves for a HC job after 1 season. Not only that, but has the guy really earned a HC job? Suspect resume as this point. Sure there are extenuating factors but doesn't seem like he deserves it yet. C.Biscuit97 Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Please let some team be dumb enough to hire Daboll as a head coach. That’s hilarious. Have to love the cronyism of the nfl that a guy with this resume is considered a head coaching “candidate.” https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/DaboBr0.htm Just now, PirateHookerMD said: I have to think that Daboll wants to build this thing. We are giving raises for the worst offense in the nfl now! What is going on right now!!!

Good for him----he can text his players that he's leaving instead of telling them in person----then the Bills can kick his fat a** twice a year. 1

Yeah, keeping a bad coach for the sake of a qb wonder wonders for Mariota and Winston.

Being the head coach at Syracuse was Doug Marrone's dream job. Then he unceremoniously left to become the head coach of his local-ish NFL team: his new dream job. Then he left Buffalo and ended up in Jacksonville. If Daboll is offered a head coaching job, I would not at all be surprised if he took it, especially coming off a season in which the offense was pretty putrid. Yeah, I'll go a step further and say that if Daboll were offered a head coaching gig, I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't take it. Once you reach a certain place professionally, all the WNY ties and such are out the window. Any assistant coach who doesn't have aspirations to be a Head Coach is a coach I'd rather not have on the staff. 2 hours ago, Commonsense said: I don’t think Daboll gets a HC job this year. A more interesting conversation would be what happens if the offense takes a major step forward next year and Allen/Daboll take the league by storm. He would definetly fit the mold of an OC who can work with a young quarterback and he would be a lock for a HC job. Would the Bills entertain promoting Daboll to HC to keep him from leaving. I know, deal with the problem when/if it comes but it’s not that far fetched. If McD still can’t get the game management part of coaching down I think they Pegulas would have a tough decision. I worry about that scenario kind of like I worry about how to keep the dynasty together if we start winning Superbowls. 1
Commish Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 When a job is offered to an OC like Daboll, can/do/should the head coach extract a promise to stay at least two years?

You give my post far too much respect with your well thought out response. I was being totally sarcastic about how he left his job here. Although, as he did here, it would be hilarious to see him quit the Jags thinking the Jets naming him HC is a fait accompli only to see it not happen again. 25 minutes ago, LSHMEAB said: Yeah, I'll go a step further and say that if Daboll were offered a head coaching gig, I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't take it. It’s ironic that a major reason he’d be offered the Jags job is because of those WNY ties in the first place. 1
