Since being inserted into the starting lineup in a Week 10 thrashing of the Jets at MetLife Stadium, Wallace has been targeted just six times in 96 pass-coverage snaps and surrendered three receptions for 40 yards with one pass breakup.

 

One of the catches Wallace allowed was a 29-yard jump-ball snag by Jaguars wideout Donte Moncrief that was followed by a brawl, leading to the ejections of Shaq Lawson and Leonard Fournette.

While his relatively small sample size must be accounted for, Wallace's 32 coverage snaps per reception allowed is the best figure among all cornerbacks in the NFL, per Pro Football Focus. Among every pro cornerback with 25 or more coverage snaps, Wallace enters Week 14 with the best yards allowed per coverage snap at 0.42.

 

For context, the man Wallace replaced, Phillip Gaines, was targeted 29 times and allowed 19 receptions for 268 yards with one touchdown, one pass breakup, and three penalties this season. His coverage snaps per reception figure was 9.8 and he surrendered 1.44 yards per coverage snap, which is the 117th-best figure among corners who have played this year.

I actually thought about that the other day and the rollercoaster it's been with Sky Diver.

 

Talks up Robert Foster.  Plays terribly in camp,  Sky Diver is ridiculed.  Foster makes the team, Sky Diver gives it back to us.  Then Foster is cut, we give it back to Sky.  Foster brought back up and now playing well.  Where's Sky to gloat now?

 

Reuben Foster gets a DV charge.  We give it to Sky Diver and he of course defends.  Accuser says she lied and Sky Diver wins.  Now Reuben is arrested again and  first accuser recants earlier statements.  Sky Diver loses now?

Wallace has been fantastic.  Even if not against the "best" NFL competition, this is an UDFA.  At worst he projects as great depth and we draft a guy like Greedy from LSU, at best, he is a shutdown corner and we can continue to go after depth in the later rounds.

And before this season here I am slamming Alabama's players as being overrated and generally failing in the NFL (mostly true) because the system is more of the strength than the individual players.

 

Right now Foster is one of the best deep threats in the league, and if Wallace pans out it might take some pressure off Beane to draft a corner high.  Taron and Levi could both be excellent long term pieces here.   Would be huge.

The Bills now have 12 rookies on the roster and another on IR.  Great job by Beane acquiring young talent through the draft, free agency & great use of the practice squad getting guys on there & then bringing them up after some seasoning.  Now maybe only half or a little bit more than half will be long term Bills players, but his record in 1 year already shows how superior he is to all the GMs we've had this century.
