Or did you sleep during the off-season? 8 hours ago, hondo in seattle said: My original point was that there is a clear correlation between spending and wins - albeit an imperfect one. This year our active roster spending is $17 million below the #31 team. We're spending roughly $40m less than the average NFL club. There's a vocal minority calling for McD's head and I'm not sure why. The guy's outgunned every Sunday and never had a fighting chance to return this team to the playoffs this season. We have the draft capital (10 picks) and financial resources ($85 mil) to do a lot of catching up next year. There are indeed a lot of holes to fill. But with so much to work with, we ought to see a dramatically improved squad... If Beane's any good at his job. Beane's already had both hits and misses in his short career as a GM. The pessimists will emphasize the misses and the optimists the hits. The cautious realists are still in a wait-and-see mode because the sample size on Beane personnel decisions is still small. Maybe I lean to the optimistic side because I think 2019 will be a much better year. And, peering further ahead, as things stand right now the Bills have - by a wide margin - the most available cap space in the NFL in 2020! Your point is perfectly valid and anyone fighting it is dumb. This team is talent deficient for one reason: they dumped their big contracts to rebuild the team, taking on dead money so that by 2019 they'd be in the clear and able to go full steam. It was the plan all along. The coaches, GM, and owners all knew this and signed off on it. Of course, they still try to win games as much as they can in the mean time.
formerlyofCtown Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Money buys the Patriots all sorts of fabor in the NFL Ive always suspected it anyway.
QuoteTheRaven83 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 As crazy as this sounds but the Browns are building for success. Hire a competent GM. Sign key free agents like Jarvis Landry and SLAY the draft. Joe Schobert, Myles Garrett, Nick Chubb, Baker Mayfield, Denzel Ward, David Njoku. They're finally doing things right.

Let's see, Sam Shield cap hit is less than a million, as is Ramik Wilsons. So literally they signed Suh to a big contract which is only one year. Maybe you are thinking they acquired high priced players through trades. Let's see again, Marcus Peters has a 1.7 million cap hit and is 25 and Brandin Cooks who was still on his rookie contract and anything but "high priced". So the bunch of high priced and old players they signed were Suh for one year and Talib. Two players now count as a bunch? And oh btw, none of these players are the reasons they are winning so you are literally wrong about everything. Edited December 6, 2018 by buffalobillswin
Call_Of_Ktulu Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 I would rather just use our cap savings to pay off the officials like 40% of the NFL does.

They have been aggressive in free agency and trades over the past two seasons, surrounding Goff with talent and spending a lot on defense. In 2017 they were top 8 in free agency spending. In 2018 they spent less, mostly because they had less cap space. They've been aggressive and have brought in multiple high priced guys, also signing their home grown talent to huge deals. https://overthecap.com/2018-spending-on-nfl-rosters/ "The Rams are the final team with over $200 million in contracts. They have been ultra aggressive this offseason with trades and contract extensions. With their signings of Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald they have the two largest contracts in the NFL relative to the position."

Tate is very solid and always performs. ...seems to have turned the corner with Eagles....why would Roseman let him go?.............

Even when they let Foles and Peters go the don't have a lot of $'s for FA. They got Golden Tate, Brandon Graham, Ronald Darby, Jay Ajayi and a lot of others to sign or replace. Lot's of tough decisions for Iggles.
dma0034 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Pretty clear they are going to be getting some Offensive Talent via Free Agency. My guess would be the O-Line since there isn't reall any viable free agent WR (doesn't rule out a trade though). Get your stud Pass Rusher in round 1 and use the rest of the draft and free agency to protect Allen and supply weapons. We need a RB badly.
