That's why my point on Watkins was: if the team wants to move on, why not trade him in FA or early in trading camp, and make a push to sign a quality WR?

There weren't many quality WR's available via free agency.  Beane wasn't even here until after the draft and we did sign Boldin (who of course retired) after failing to land Maclin.  It's not like we didn't at least try to address it like it seemed this previous offseason.

I have the same question.

If the Bills kept him on the roster for 4 more games, Kelvin Benjamin becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Assuming he signs a decent contract (not sure how likely that is), it factors into the compensatory pick formula.

They’ll add more than they lose next offseason.. These cuts mean nothing for comp picks.

And exactly how did they spend more in releasing them?

I don't know I assume the writer worked out how it comes down that way but that's still the point he was trying to make.

Moot point though since it the money doesnt matter.

That seems to be how the Bills felt the additional cost wasn't worth more than the reps to the guys they might actually want to keep.

I mean it is possible he gets pissed because of this and plays better for someone else because he sure wasn't playing with any emotion here.

My point is that even if he gets pissed and tries to play better for someone else, it very well may not happen.

Why?  Because he's been dogging it here so long, it has become a habit.  Once something becomes a habit, it's hard to break with the best will in the world.

Oh for sure I just meant he might briefly play better for someone else odds are whatever it is that makes him think it's okay to play lazy will come up again and he'll be right back to pissing off some new fanbase.

Why do I feel like KB had more drops than catches?

Oh oh that’s right because he was useless.

It's kind of crazy that Beane/McD didn't foresee issues - they should have known him better than anyone.  Maybe they knew of some stuff but thought they could get him to play, change of scenery etc.  Don't think anyone could have foreseen the total checkout that occurred though - I've never seen anything like it.  Just crazy

I think he just lost his will to compete.  Not sure if he has some personal issues that he's dealing with, maybe he's battling depression and feels lost and just can't make himself care about football right now.   Maybe the money was his primary motivation to play football and he thought he had enough and was set for life and didn't want to risk his health anymore, ala Albert Haynesworth.  Who knows what the real reason is?

What's clear to everyone is that we didn't get the same KB that played in Carolina.  I'm glad the Bills finally moved on.

They were with this guy when he showed up looking like a o linemen in Carolina.  Yet, they traded a draft pick for him and started him for basically a full season.

Carolina fans universally hated the trade. I know because I visited their forum immediately after to see their reaction. I mean they HATED that trade. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I read there. He was never elite by any means but he was young and showed potential. For some reason he completely gave up after the trade. I don't know what the hell happened. Better to cut our losses and move on. WR will be a huge priority this offseason and they know that.

They were with the lazy worker in Carolina and then brought him to Buffalo.

They saw a chance to help a guy get re-born while trying to instill a new culture. It didn't work out. They cut bait.

Some choose to judge people based on their mistakes. Other choose to judge people based on how they react to their mistakes. You can tell much more by the latter.

Cam Newton won the MVP and they went to the SM the year he didn’t play a game.  They traded him in the middle of playoff race.  The Carolina fans I knew thought he was a fat bum and they were better without him.

jordan Matthews

kelvin Benjamin

trading up for Zay Jones instead of taking JuJu or Kupp

corey Coleman

2 undersized slot wrs in this year’s draft

they are dreadful with receivers.

That's great for the fans you know. I'm telling you Carolina fans almost across the board hated Marty Hurney for that trade. Their Kelvin Benjamin thread on the Panthers forum was as long as ours was here, and as much as we liked it their fans hated it even more. So did Cam Newton for that matter. Why Benjamin turned into a worthless player both on and off the field, I couldn't tell you.

Zay has been their worst draft pick so far. They'll have a chance to rectify it next year. Criticizing players that they used a 6th and two 7ths on is nonsense, and you know it.

Zones seems to be turning the corner, but the Bills have struggled finding good receivers for years. Even as talented as Watson was, he was Mr. Glass and hurt all the time.

The Bills FO should just admit defeat, and pay someone to get a look at Green Bay's or the Vikings WR draft board - they seem to have a clue about how to go about it.

I love this move. This FO and coaching staff have zero tolerance for lazy players that put in no effort on the field. They did it with Darius and now this poor excuse for a WR, good for them. Buy in or ship out, message sent.

Carolina was happy for someone else to inherit Kelvin.  Along with the cap hit and despite being overweight. So, many guys were picked up for the process with Trent Murphy being moved around as Love gets promoted.  It was the wrong direction to go and speaking from a public relations perspective all of the morale victories are not painting a winning record.  Next season Murphy who has bounced around on IR and had blown his own gap calls and assignments may not come back.  It’s the little cap hits which lead to the bigger hits coming.

I’m the first to B word about poor game or roster management, so it’s only fair to give props for moves that I think are solid.

Nice work Mr Beane! Let’s see what Ray Ray can do.

Credit McBeane for cutting KB (though it should have been sooner) but let’s not forget what it cost us to get him ... and it’s not like they didn’t know the player.  FWIW.
