Guy is scrambling, throwing across his body to  wide open receiver who can't figure out too late (before falling on his face) that all he had to do was move a few steps to the ball and walk back into the EZ.  It was

Or catch it and have the first down where he caught it.

You have to keep in mind the specific circumstances of that play. Josh was running for his life. When he made the throw he was off-balance. He had to get it off as fast as possible. He had no time to set his feet. Essentially, it got there. All Clay had to do was take a couple steps towards the pass and catch it. Josh made a great play in my opinion. Shame

I get that and you can factor that into Allen's performance but technically speaking the question is did Allen deliver a pass his TE should of caught, I think he did.

It's a catch a top notch TE should  Steven Hawking would have made.

Fixed.

Old hands of stone standing in end zone until, Oh *****, the ball is coming to me. Then he broke on the ball to late

Then tried to catch with his hands instead of scooping the ball

Considering the circumstances, escaping the rush, running for his life, throwing against his shoulder 45 yards in the air.  99% Clay's fault.  Not only could he have caught that he absolutely should have caught it.  He didnt even have to fully extend his arms for that catch.

Great play by Josh

An easy way to answer this question - if Clay had caught the ball would anyone be talking about his incredible game winning play or Allen's incredible game winning play? No contest there.

He was alone in the EZ.  No one would have been there to down him for the first down.

I think the reason he fell was that he was committed to the idea that he had to have the TD. If he had only focused on catching the ball it was easy. It was not a game ending hail mary situation. Just needed the first.

With the time he has, that was a good throw.

I’m watching Brady camp in the pocket every time he drops back - what a difference.

Brady gets the ball out in 2 and a half seconds pretty much every time. I don't expect Josh to be there as a rookie but ultimately that is where he needs to get to. Snap, recognise the defense and ball out on time. That is what wins in this league long term.

We need to improve his protection, no question..

Shold Clay have caught the ball?  Or was it just a bad pass?

Allen just escaped at least two rushers running for his life. If the pass want perfect he's got an excuse. Clay, on the other hand, needed to come back to the ball, not dive.
