I was shocked when I looked at his stat line from yesterday. It sure seemed like he completed a lot more passes than 8 and with a better completion %. I'm guessing it was the dropped passes and the penalties that make it look like he did more?

Full disclosure I wanted Allen over every other QB (Rosen second) and posted such before the draft.

I thought Allen played well but not great today.

Positives: Stood tall in the pocket and kept his eyes downfield.  Did not put the ball in harms way.  Threw the ball away when that was the right play.  Made several athletic plays.  Managed the huddle and clock well.  Energy and enthusiasm was great again.  The TD throw was great but the two first downs called back were just as good.  Solid professional throws.  Same goes for the simple out pattern for a first down on third down deep in Bills territory.  Excellent read and throw.  That is a pick-six with Peterman at QB, maybe Barkely too.

Negatives:  For as many times as he stood tall in the pocket, he also looked jittery too.  The Jags front is good and the Bills OL is awful so it is to be a bit expected.  First game back too.  Hope to see more calm feet over the next few games.  Timing on sideline throws was off.  I don't know if that is WR or QB.  Allen looked like he was putting the ball at the down marker and the WR was running a step or two beyond the marker.  Needs to slide or run out of bounds more.  I wonder if there were some dump offs he missed on some plays where he ran or threw the ball away.  I didn't see a single check down all day.  It was mostly 1 or 2 reads and then panic/run.

I still think Allen is the best of the 2018 class especially given the OL and WR he has.  They should have let him go play action on first and goal late in the game.  Let the kid throw for a TD.  The running is fine but he needs to keep developing as a passer.  He has all the tools and just needs more game experience.

He's still trying to make sense of what he is seeing. I didn't want him to start right away, figuring he needed more time behind a vet like Barkley. But he did pretty well against a great defense. Plus he's got the BDE. He comes off humble during interviews with media, but on the field he plays with swag.

It will take a few years before we know this, but it may also be the case that the argument is similar to who is the best of Kelly, Marino, and Elway...

I didn't think he looked jittery at all.  He knew what he wanted and he took it.

The timing was off on sideline throws to Thompson, who's brand new to the team.   His throws to McKenzie, who also is relatively new, were pretty good.

There were very few negatives.

Agreed , McDermott still doesn't have a grasp to what he is doing at QB.  He should be putting Josh in line to get as many meaningful  reps as possible.  The red zone at the end of the game was ridiculous.  First off he's just back from a injury and you go using him like Tim Tebow at the goal line  Just hand it to Ivory if you are to chicken ***** to let him throw in the red zone

I imagine my wife's eyes almost rolled into the back of her head after that play due to my rant. No reason to expose him like that. Earlier in the year they ran a QB draw on 3rd and something ridiculous like 24.

I have a hard time evaluating offensive coordinators. If a guy misses a block or the QB doesn't make the right read, you can blame the OC even if it was a good call. Those run calls though, come on Daboll.

His comp % would probably be a lot better if he could find his checkdowns quickly. That was something the more experienced Barkley was easily able to do.

There were quite a few plays they only sent 2-3 receivers out with no checkdowns. He also escaped the rush a lot. No sacks in this game with that blocking was an overlooked element to his play. He really had a very good game. Those 2-3 way off the mark passes out of the 22 or so he threw were aberrations. He was very accurate most of the game.

I thought it was the best game he played all year even though be only completed 8 passes. He threw the ball with authority. A couple bad throws, some worries there still but if you look at the type of kid he is you know hes going to work his butt off to correct them. I was more encouraged yesterday than all year.

Fun to think about what might happen when we build around him. His moxie is infectous, ppl are going to rally around him.

You need to get your official TSW Rose Colored Glasses.  I don't have a pair myself so I see Josh Allen as the average (at best) rookie QB that he really is but once you put those glasses on then Josh Allen becomes 2018 NFL Rookie of the Year.

Lame post. As you are finding out, he is a winner. Unlike cerain posters.

One of the seemingly off target passes to Thompson over the middle was a failure on Deonte’s part to adjust his route back to the outside as Josh was expecting him to do. It was a third down pass early in the second half. Josh ran up to him and you could see he was explaining to Thompson how he should have adjusted the route and they continued the discussion on the sidelines for a bit after coming off the field. I liked the way the kid handled it. He was teaching and helping a new teammate.

So why did Matt Barkley come in with little knowledge of the play book or his receivers and do a much better job??  I think I see a homer attitude which seems to engulf your life!
