The comic creator added Franklin to the “Peanuts” cast after a white teacher wrote Schulz in the days after Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, and asked him to include a black character among Charlie Brown and his friends.

 

The teacher, Harriet Glickman, said that Schulz could make a big impact writing a black child into the previously all-white cartoon.

 

Of course that teacher was a vile, white racist.  Just read her letter for all the proof you need.  She called them '***** children'.

My favorite part of this is watching people get in such a frenzy about how we treat black people, that they realize the only way to stop it is to segregate blacks from whites so the white man will learn his lesson once and for all.

I lived in a pool supply-shed turned into a bedroom at a motel run by one of my high school teachers until I graduated high school, working after school at the motel during school and working fair concessions all over the NE during the summers. I worked three jobs to put myself through college, making sure at least one of them was in the food industry so I could eat. 

 

Everything I have came from working my ass off and making sure I kept stupidity to a minimum. And it came not because I was white and not because I had a penis because I never stopped trying to better my situation. I took jobs that sucked, moved to cities I hated, worked for people I didn't respect, all with an eye on improving my lot in life.

 

In fact, I represent everything a leftist like you hates: hard working, self-sufficient and self-accountable. You need victims, not success stories. And I'm not victim of anything but my own decisions.

  Lots of "white guys" could tell a similar story.  What these chuckleheads fail to see is if you are a white guy surrounded by whites then your "whiteness" is of virtually no importance.  That you are actually common as dirt to the community I describe.  If you are common as dirt you will probably be treated as dirt.

It's really bizarre to see people running around in thick traffic today to save a buck. Amazon is up and running. I often wonder if their motivation for this is simply because they feel they're 'supposed to." They may not even know they've fallen victim to such group think. But I'd never tell anyone what to do nor judge. What I find is the opposite; admonishment for NOT playing along. My motto in life is DO YOU.

 

As far as holiday pay, sign me up. When I was an hourly employee at the casino, I would work every holiday. I'll work 15 hours if they allow it. It's just another day in the life.

I used to work at Ames (remember them) while going to college. We were open all day on Thanksgiving, back in 1991, and the only choice you had that day, was not if you would work, but if you wanted the morning or afternoon shift.

Quoting this portion not to minimize your story but to ask: Do you think your situation was easier or harder for being a white man?

 

I’m not asking if we should legislate based on your answer. I’m not asking whether people of all sort play the victim card too much. 

 

But my belief is that it’s easier being a white man than a black one in America. And being a man vs a woman. Not impossible. Just harder. Do you agree?

Now while many were in management and were exempt there were some that once I was less naive realized they were non-exempt. I do remember one job where they did pay me overtime I worked 100 hours one week. After I got that check I put in for as much overtime as possible.

  Such generalities do not speak to the America of the 21st Century.  About a dozen years ago I applied for a union job in the automotive industry.  The local was almost entirely black in its leadership.  I did not get the job and did not worry as to the reasons why.  Was it because I was white?  Was it because somebody scored better on the test?  Was it because somebody had experience relative to the job or more experience than what I had?  The bottom line was nobody owed me an explanation so I moved on to the next option.  The point in part is people of color have advanced in America and have enclaves where they hold the power in business and at the same time white people have far less exclusive hold in controlling jobs.  You want to march into the den of the lion and see what happens then that is up to you but the results should be of no surprise if you are white and go into the den of a black lion or black going into the den of a white lion.  If a black man goes into a backwater town of all whites then it would not be surprising that his job quest is very uphill.  If a white guy goes into a very heavy black section of a major city then it would not be surprising that his job quest is very uphill.  But the main point of my statement is that the America of 2018 is not described by the backwater town nor the black section of the city.  America is a very mobile society where a person of a given set of qualifications can be readily matched with a job.  Further, the white man is just as apt to be faced with the reality that his job will move him far away from his family as it would be for the black man.  You are trying to imply that America is as it was 3-4 generations ago to make some sort of point about the plight of the black man which is no longer relevant today.  What is done is done in terms of discrimination from 1975, 1965, 1955, and on back.  To worry about what happened 4 generations or 80-100 years ago makes as much sense as to worry about who mated with your ancestor from a 1000 years ago to figure why you don't look like a typical Italian, Irishman, etc..  So to answer your question it really is not harder in 2018 America for a black man given the mobility that exists.
