Yeah, they misjudged the importance of speed at WR and also horribly misjudged the importance of experience at the QB position, but they have learned these lessons the hard way. I don’t think they’ll make those mistakes again next season. So, that’s good.

-One nfl team didn’t give a hoot.

-  we got a 2nd rd pick and a player that clearly helped us make the playoffs for Sammy.  With that 2nd rd pick, we got the QB that they wanted.  We also got Edmunds because of these trades.  And Phillips.  And taron Johnson.  Without the trades,  we’d have 1 or 2 of those players.  Now we have 4 cornerstone players under contract for 4-5 years instead of paying an overpaid underperforming dareus and an always hobbled diva wr that didn’t buy in and a man corner that is about to get paid,  Yeah, terrible trade.

-I was “yelling” that there is no way to know how good Peterman was until he played a game.  It was obvious to everyone that Tyrod wasn’t good enough to win us a super bowl.  That was proof positive after Tyrod led us to zero TDs in our first playoff appearnece in 17 years,    Why not give the unknown a shot?  We all knew Tyrod wasn’t good enough.  Some people, like you, knew that Peterman wasn’t good enough,  grats.  I didn’t know that until I saw him play.

- if Sammy , dareus and Darby could’ve won us a super bowl in a year or two, I’d agree that the trades were bad.  We weren’t going to win a SB with them, so instead, we turned those vets with big contracts and soon to be pending FA’s and turned them into a great draft class under rookie sailers for 4-5 years,  if you can’t see why that makes sense, I don’t know what to tell you,

Wrong. Watkins had more than one team trying to sign him in UFA.  Taron Johnson as a 4th round pick had nothing to do with any trades.  They traded up for Edmunds and we hope he's a cornerstone player, but no one knows that yet despite the flashes. Same for Phillips who looks good as a rotational DT.

Everyone knew Taylor was a limited starting QB that wasn't the type to lead a team to a championship, but turning to Peterman was ludicrous as he wasn't even close to being a better option. His flaws were glaring as I have said since he 1st started playing in preseason 2017.  You couldn't see it, but many others could as it was as plain as day.

What the team lacked was a potential franchise QB.  Generally speaking, a team doesn't do itself any favors by shedding young, talented players from its roster that create holes in the roster as well as dead cap space.  We'll see how much sense it makes eventually, but the strategy is not beyond being questioned.

The next step in this evolution is Chris Conley. This has to happen this offseason. Speed that kills and is 6-2, 215 with a 45 inch vert. He's developed nicely for KC and Andy Reid. Now he has to come here and be the #1 guy.

Yea but according to this message board all of that tearing down of the offense ABSOLUTELY NEEDED to happen because "cap hell", "process", and "Whaley mistakes".

So your saying . To fix mistakes u need to even make more mistakes. Hmm!

-Which teams? Link?

- we would’ve traded up for a qb and we wouldn’t have had the 2nd from Sammy or the 3rd from philly. It likely would’ve cost us that pick as well.  If it didn’t, we may have drafted a MLB or DT because we wouldn’t have had Edmunds and Phillips.  This entire draft likely would’ve been much different

-you have no idea what goes on in camp.  Peterman actually won a starting job this year.  He looked fine in camp.  He looked fine in preseason.  On gamedays, he’s the worst QB ever......but you never know until you see it.  Some guys step their game up.  Some guys aren’t big enough for the moment.  Watching peterman vs Clemson and their defense, he looked like a guy that could step up his game when the bullets start flying.  You never know until they play.  You “knew”.  Grats, that’s impossible to know, but apparently you do.....in hindsight.

its not beyond being questioned.  At this point, all you can do is whine and cry.

The only thing that is fact:  we made the playoffs after trading all of those players that couldn’t get us to the playoffs for years.  We accumulated picks for those players.  We’ve drafted VERY well in 2 years under McDermott. They decided to rebuild and in order to do so, had to eat the dead cap for one season so they’d have 80 mill and 10 draft picks this offseason.  Now, they’ll have to overpay players....but they’ll overpay the players that they want.  Not players that were inherited with questionable character, maturity and one failed drug test away from a year long suspension.

you don’t like it.  Sucks for you.

They tried to sign John Brown.  He didn’t want to come here.

Which teams?  Do your own research.

Camp and Preseason.   It's impossible for you to know maybe.  By your theory no one would ever get cut because the only way to know if a player is roster worthy is if he plays in games and we know that's nonsesnse.

Whine and cry?  It's called discussion. You know, the thing that occurs on a football board.

An NFL HC/GM who needs a season plus to learn this has one foot out the door.

For what they're getting paid, it is expected they will know from the outset what to do, not learn on the job.  These guys are hired on their potential to win, innovate, and get the team in a position to win, not slog it out through a season and a half trying to invent the light bulb.

My original post wasn’t just directed at you in particular.  Many people here don’t discuss.  They whine and cry.  And you know this.....MAAAAAN

Plus benjamin is one of the bigger hits on the team and cost a pick.

They swung and missed and need to own it

The article posted by the op pretty much shows they are "owning it".

Generally yea, though in this setting I was moreso directing that at the posters saying they couldn’t possibly fill the receiver role given all the holes. No, they traded a day to pick for one of the biggest busts on the team. It’s not that they couldn’t it’s that they went after a big slow guy with attitude issues instead of someone with some speed

He’s a professional.  A professional that these owners are going to pay tens of millions of dollars.  Every day is a job audition for athletes.  When they go out and do such stupid things as calling fans lives and jobs “little”, eyebrows are raised.  Obviously yours aren’t because it didn’t affect your little bubble, but it obviously affected others.  What he said and how he said it, says a lot about who Sammy Watkins, the person, is.  And now he’s on his 3rd team in 3 years and the Bills made the playoffs without him.

So what’s your point?  That The Bills would’ve won the super bowl last year or this year if they didn’t trade Sammy, Marcel and Tyrod?  It should be, because that’s thing that could make the trades bad.

Edit: we haven’t effectively added a deep threat.....yet.  It’s the first offseason in a rebuild in which we have 55 mill in dead cap.  The rest will addressed this season and next.

Now bold one topic and ignore the rest

I guess one of the upsides of hiring an OC who wants to be near his family in Buffalo is that Pegula's might be able to overpay him to stay.......... like Kraft overpays to keep McDaniels.

Of course we are getting WAYYY of ourselves.........two weeks ago he was on pace to possibly produce the worst results of any NFL OC since the merger.

to both of you : )
No Saint included.
Pegulas can and might very well pay for some continuity of mission. This is a different era with these new owners i suspect.
Daboll has plenty to prove yet before he becomes desirable. plenty. imho

2) You still think you were right

Enough said about your ability to talk a subject thru.

You have no idea what I was.  But you think you know.  You think you know everything.

Benching a bum qb for one game in order to see what you have in a rookie qb.  That’s what you guys are crying about.  Tyrod wasn’t good.  He couldn’t move the ball.  He got benched.  And you’re still talking about it.

It should be common knowledge to know you need a mix of recievers. If you have all big tall recievers then you won't get any separation and DBs would just defend the close routes and not defend the deep ball. If you have all small speedy recievers you will struggle in redzone

In an age of offensive explosiveness Daboll doesn’t seem to be the difference maker we need. I doubt he will ever be put in the conversation as a great offensive genius like Walsh, Reid....
