I know the KC vs. LAR game lived up to the hype and one of the greatest ever.

But I remember a game in 1992 that remains my favourite ever.  Yes combination of it being the Bills and waxing nostalgic.  Oh and a win too....  And look at the players.

Was anyone complaining about too much offense back then?

This was pre- WWW days, but there was a bills fan group on Usenet then (alt.sports.football.pro.buffalo-bills?? if memory serves) that was very active, and yes, people were mad about the lack of defense.  I mean everyone went nuts about the game but the sober olds (I was a young lad attending the University of Alabama at the time) warned the young turks that the soft D would be the death of the team's super bowl aspirations.  The wounds were still fresh from the Giants controlling the clock almost 2:1 in SB 25, so they weren't wrong then, and it's not wrong now to bemoan the lack of D.  I'm left wondering though if today's Bills D could slow down the LA Rams or KC.

The Giants SB loss I blame 100% on that year there being only a one week gap from the Championship game to the SB and the Bills being euphoric (and full of themselves) over their demolition of the Raiders (was at that game).  The Bills were unprepared for the SB and all the media and expectations of the Bills who compounded it by having too much fun that week and Levy not doing a great job supervising them.

An extra week and all would have been fine.

Better era of football. QBs weren’t excused from most contact, and completions over the middle came with a price to pay. Most every yard was earned. Complaints about a lack of D weren’t common, as the league hadn’t yet gone soft. Current complaints are justified. The Rams/ Chiefs contest was something more akin to a 1990s Pro Bowl game.

Totally agree. JK noted the quick turnaround in "Armed & Dangerous" (quality early 90's read BTW, most here should enjoy) and that there was way too much sampling of the local night life before the game--there's an anecdote in there about meeting up with Lawrence Taylor at a shoe modeling establishment which seems nuts to me in trying to prepare for the biggest game of your life, but different times back then (wow I feel old typing that). I guess it's still not as crazy sounding as Babe Ruth's generation chugging beers in the dugouts between innings ;). I feel like if the Bills knew was coming the next 3 years successively down the road, they would have observed curfew a bit more that week? Still, ended up only one kick away from the W,  and that kick easily could have turned in left despite everything leading up to it!

How come nobody is mentioning there were a ton of defensive TD's and turnovers that put offenses in the red zone in Monday's game?

Yes and needed that week to prepare.  The turnaround was way too fast and the Giants were prepared (SB a few years earlier) and the Bills were overwhelmed by the enormity of the spectacle.

True and only 1 turnover each in the Bills/SF game.  Both QB's threw over 400 and over 1000 yards in offense that game.  SF ended the season 14-2 (lost to the 13-3 Cowboys).......  Won't spoil the SB results for anyone.....??

No, I think the one week helped us.  Two weeks of Bills partying and they would have looked unprepared like they did to start of the Redskins SB.

Parcells and Bellichek put together one of the best Super Bowl gameplans ever in just one week, just think about what they could do with 2?

The Bills lost because they did not take what was given to them.  They could have run all day on that  2 LB and 6 dB defense.  That would have forced the Giants into their base defense which then would have opened up the pass.  We realized this way too late, like in the 4th quarter.   Our offense played right into their hands and the Giants did enough ground and pound to wear down our defense and control the clock.

Although there were many missed plays, the defining moment becomes the final play, a 47 yard FG on real grass.  Not an easy kick back then but the one that separated the great from the very good.

Outcoached and overconfident.  Two weeks would not have helped.

Can agree to disagree, the Bills were young, so over confident & in awe of the SB experience, that another week would have been huge.....  Also a terrible 2-minute drill (think they got the ball with 2:39 left and somehow couldn't get beyond the 30 yard line.

Should have easily won by 14+.

While I disagree with your premise that the Bills would have been even more out-coached with another week (also remember the Bills beat the Giants earlier that same season), I definitely agree that we played right into their gameplan and did not make the necessary adjustments at halftime to account for what they were showing. The 2nd half was basically more of the same. Thurman could've run for 200+ the way he was on fire, and the Bills staying on the field so long on D was a back breaker. Still, Norwood was hitting from 45+ in pregame warmups and all of this is moot if he boots it through just this once. Nice article below on the 4 in a row:

I certainly don’t remember anyone citing it as some tangible  inflection point for the whole sport

"It was a terrible game and not the way football is meant to be played......  Certainly not Buffalo Bills football!!!!!" - Coach McD?

We can agree that we should have won by 14+.  We had the better talent and the fact we made 4 in a row justifies that.

We ran a no huddle hurry-up for most of the season.  You would think we could have done better in the last possession but again, the Giants played us before, and they where better prepared.  Being a veteran team helped them for sure.   They executed a masterful game plan and we did not adjust until very late.

Didn't SF lose to the Giants who we played in the Superbowl?

Great minds think alike.  This game came to mind as I watched the MNF offensive explosion.   I know people complain about the lack of defense, but like the LAR vs KC, that Bills vs 49's game was a lot of fun.

I was relieved when I realized that there had been a punt I. The game.  I believe that the 1992 Bills/49er's game is still the only regular season game without either team punting.

Let's hope there are new glory days in our near future like the 90's Bills.

The Bills should have been ready, we played the Giants in Week 15 that same season and beat them. Ironically enough that game Phil Sims got hurt, one has to wonder if the Giants would have still won the Super Bowl with Phil starting over Hostetler.
