Miracle Bills Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 (edited) When Peterman replaced Taylor and threw 5 interceptions it was immediately turned into a race issue, and that was not Petermans fault. Writers all over American decided to make a 5th round quarterback the face of white privilege. He replaced a black quarterback. Then he had a job and Kaepernick didn't. Even EJ Manuel piled on. This is very unfair to Peterman who was just trying to make a living. Everyone knows race is behind the mocking of him but but won't say it. There are tons of articles just like this one illustrating what I am talking about. Fifth round draft picks don't get this much publicity. They just don't. Unless someone has an agenda. Race had nothing to do with it. A rookie coach making a terrible decision after a bunch of terrible losses was behind the move. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/bills-quarterback-dilemma-clear-black-white-article-1.3645016 I am not saying Peterman is an NFL quarterback, but he does deserve a better shot. And for all the people out there that say he is the worst quarterback ever. Here is a stat for you. Alex Smith in his first 5 starts in the NFL threw 10 interceptions and no touchdowns. Worse than Peterman. People love to leave Alex Smith out of the conversation because it does not fit their narrative. This year he signed a 4 year 96 million dollar contract. Players can improve. If the Raiders or somebody else sign Peterman to their practice squad don't be surprised if he does what many former Bills did. Turn into an solid NFL player. DaBillsFanSince1973 Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 seriously, why join the board just to post ridiculous threads? namely peterman threads. what, are you obsessed by the kid? 3 2

dorquemada Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 i mean, i am not sure about all that besides the obvious fact that the Media and a lot of soft headed fellow travelers love to turn everything into a racial issue. There's an age divide there, people under a certain age have to view everything through the lens of race and are fundamentally incapable of having a discussion without virtual signalling about how woke they are. it's absolutely ruined a lot of sports journalism (cough, ESPN, cough) 7 1

I suspect there were some people involved in the Kaepernick collusion case that were pushing this Peterman mocking and hatred. It was quite sad, but useful for them. It makes no sense of NBC sports to be running pieces like this. Amazing the NFL allowed them to run such garbage. https://www.nbcsports.com/video/bills-sticking-nathan-peterman-only-helps-colin-kaepernicks-case Edited November 15, 2018 by Miracle Bills
Kirby Jackson Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 (edited) It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with a long shot scrub replacing a functioning QB in the midst of a playoff chase. Peterman was terrible and continued to get opportunities that other long shots (regardless of race) didn’t get. Levi Brown and Jeff Tuel were also scrubs that washed out. Tuel was WAY better than NP in his 1 opportunity. Peterman had a job that he didn’t deserve and was paid a lot of money to do that job. No one owes him anything. He sucked and is now out of the NFL (where he belongs). Edited November 15, 2018 by Kirby Jackson 3 3
msw2112 Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 (edited) I'm a fairly liberal thinker and I support the players who want to kneel, think Kaepernick is getting a raw deal, etc. I think that the article quoted in the original post is ridiculous. McDermott started Peterman because Taylor was HORRIBLE for three straight games before he got benched. During that stint, Peterman came in during garbage time against the Saints and moved the team and scored some points. McDermott took a chance that maybe he had something with Peterman that would spark the offense. It didn't work out and the rest of Peterman's career in Buffalo didn't go well, but the benching of Taylor in the first place had NOTHING to do with race and it is clear that the author of that article did not watch the THREE Bills games prior to Peterman's first start. The author of that article is uninformed and the article is offensive to me. And people now don't hate on or mock Peterman because he is white. It is because he had historically bad statistics. ExWNYer Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 So people hate Peterman because he is a race fan? Hmmm...I didn't even know he liked NASCAR.
GG Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Peterman's general suckitude is behind the hatred & mocking 1
Nuncha Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 (edited) Race issue? No. Bills knew they weren't going to the next level with Taylor and wanted to see what Peterman could do. They found out real quickly Peterman wasn't an NFL caliber QB...What I don't understand is why they kept Peterman around as long as they did. Same thing happened to Taylor in Cleveland....why hasn't the same "uproar" occurred there? Probably because Taylor was replaced by a "white" number 1 overall draft pick rather than a "white" 5th rounder that nobody knew. Edited November 15, 2018 by Azucho98
blacklabel Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Peterman is a practice-time all-star, that's what it is... in practice and pre-season, the kid looks like he has it. But when he has to play regular season games where opponents aren't showing just a basic look on defense, he implodes. Things spiral out of control for him rather quickly after one mistake happens. Things just seem to snowball and get worse from there. I've never seen a QB with worse luck, actually. Over half his interceptions aren't really on him. Some of them weren't great throws but they were in places where the receiver should've made the catch but instead it would get deflected and picked off. And sportswriters are going to discuss whatever gets people to click their links and discuss their articles. Peterman replacing Taylor in 2017 had nothing to do with race. It had everything to do with Taylor playing very underwhelming football. And again, Peterman must have looked like the better option in practice which is why he got the shot. The game was and is still too big for him. 1

The Tyrod benching was obvious to most close watchers of Bills games, but the less Bills centric press (99% of them) used two metrics judging Tyrod, his turnover ratio and the fact he was the QB to the playoffs. They didnt bother to look at his 100 yrd passing games or all the opportunities he missed. Tyrod didnt turn over the ball because he never took chances, that strategy might have worked in the NFL 20 years ago but in todays high powered passing game it is a failure. 1 2
rodneykm Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Just being truthful here, I think it has to do with 3 different things. 1. The racial card will always be pulled if a black person ( especially someone who is as good of a person as Tyrod appears to be ) is replaced by a white person ( especially if number 2 happens ) 2. His performance was horrible. Record breaking horrible. 3. He's a religious person and that is very frowned on these days it seems When you take all of those things and combine them, its a recipe for what happened to Peterman. While there were many who pulled for him, the vast majority hated him for one of the 3 reasons listed - or more often than not a combination to varying degrees of all 3 of those. 3 1
Gugny Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Sometimes black people suck at their job. Sometimes white people suck at their job. Nate Peterman sucked at his job. He sucked bad enough to gain national infamy, hence the making fun of/mocking. Nothing to do with color. He was historically bad at what he was paid a lot of money to do. The comparison to Alex Smith seems about as well thought out as this thread was. 1

I actually agree with you that there appeared to be a sense of mild outrage that Tyrod was benched "because he was black" over the white QB. Even Tyrod went to that well a few times. BUT...I do not in any way agree that Peterman deserves a better shot. He was given ample opportunity and he screwed the pooch.
