Now be fair, we know OC isn't that smart, but do we know Shrillary is?  We know she's evil, and conniving, but has she been proven to be smart?  Just because she was married to the cheater-in-chief, what evidence do we have that she's smart?  For frook sake, she tried to hide an off-line server, but still sent all of her traffic through it.  That doesn't scream Einstein to me.

Democrats Just Blocked Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Push For A Green New Deal Committee

Instead, Democrats are sticking to their original plan, and channeled Exxon Mobil in an announcement refusing to bar members who take fossil fuel money.

Democratic leaders on Thursday tapped Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) to head a revived U.S. House panel on climate change, all but ending a dramatic monthlong effort to establish a select committee on a Green New Deal.

Castor’s appointment came as a surprise to proponents of a Green New Deal.

Despite weeks of protests demanding House Democrats focus efforts next year on drafting a Green New Deal, the sort of sweeping economic policy that scientists say matches the scale of the climate crisis, Castor told E&E News the plan was “not going to be our sole focus.”

The announcement comes as a loss for Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). Her meteoric rise and devoted base made it seem as if she were poised to win the burgeoning cadre of leftist Democrats a beachhead in a select committee that, even with limited capacity, would have demonstrated tangible power in Washington.

But, if it’s defeat, it’s bittersweet. The campaign, seemingly quixotic at first, shifted the stagnant climate policy debate not just to the left but, for the first time, in the direction of policies that could make a dent in surging global emissions and curb soaring income inequality.

Personal note - as someone who went to Poland and Czechoslovakia back when it was under Communist rule, this thread is spot on! (He's speaking from his Romanian perspective.) I brought in gum with me, gave a stick to one of my cousins, and after they were finished chewing it, they saved the chewed gum in a cup for later!!!  The chicken feet thing is real.  I won't go into the toilet paper and soap we used to ship them (and had to bring with us), the clothing we had to send, etc. Anyone who thinks socialism or communism or any sort of government reliant -ism is a good thing has a screw loose.

Ummmm my mother was raised during the depression. We were told to save our gum for later.

I was thinking more pathetic than Hillary. Then I got to thinking about it. In her mind she is seriously trying to make a difference so I don’t have a problem with her I guess. The people that voted for her. Now THEY are ***** pathetic.

I have a feeling that her 'self care' break is going to last for the next 24 months. Especially when she figures out that no one in Congress gives a flying ***** what a freshman representative says or wants.

She's going to discover that her so-called supporters will forget that she's even in Congress by the end of January.

She's also going to discover the Queen B's of the Democrat party aren't going to do any favors for her either.

She is the darling of alternative progressive media and makes headlines from right wingers who love to bash her. I think she has to be aware that she isn't going to get anything done legislatively (If not she really is a dumb dumb) but she doesn't have to get anything done legislatively to stay relevant and accomplish her aims. As long as she can make it seem like she is pushing a true progressive agenda she can continue to push that narrative in the alternative media and keep her platform. Its honestly a savvy strategy to sort of hit the brick wall hard and then B word about it. It taps into the anti-establishment fever that got Trump elected and is poison for establishment candidates on the left and right.

If she wants to push the Democratic party towards a more populist agenda winning the battle in the media is the way to go because her impact as a freshman congresswoman isn't going to do anything.

Devoted base, huh, Huffington Post?

She won the primary with just over 12,000 votes against an incumbent who sent an aide to a debate in his place.

Then she won the general election against an opponent who admitted that he didn't wage a campaign.

Dude. Her district in the Bronx and includes Astoria in Queens. Until she won her primary, it's hard to imagine a more hardline working class Democratic district. She is going nowhere for the next couple of years, unless she decides to try for Senate.

The GOP put no money into the race and it was still closer than anyone expected. This is a poor analysis.

The GOP will dump millions into her district to attempt to unseat her in 2020. She'll have to actually campaign this time.

I'm very familiar with NY14.  The fact that she may repeat and repeat and repeat isn't the point I was making.

Her base isn't devoted.  She literally only needed 12,500 "devoted" voters to get to where she is.  And I would guess that any hard working D who might want to challenge her in the next primary could give her a run, for sure.
