If 2019 is a losing season I think McD is gone. In 2019 they will have 3 draft classes and enough cap space to infuse the team with talent they will have no excuses to lose. The defense is already there and they have the resources to infuse the offense with significant talent. I think 2019 is make or break for McD

If McD goes 6-10 with a much better roster in his third year as coach then I think he is a goner. It is hard for any coach to survive 2 out of 3 seasons being losing seasons especially when the second losing season will likely come with a roster expected to contend or at least have a winning record. If this team finishes with a 5-6 win season and the defense proves to be a top 5-10 unit then I think assuming they bring in significant offensive free agents and another draft class then the expectations for 2019 will be much much higher. I think McD sold ownership on a 3 year plan to begin with and if 3 years in they are coming off of back to back losing seasons then I can't see how they are retained.

We shall see if this is a much better roster but it should be , if not Beane could the goner. I believe they will fix the offense and winning will be the norm . Also pegs really like McDermott , from a philosophy standpoint , organization, and faith it is going to take A LOT for him to get fired.

If they hand out 3 big contracts on offense (Let's say 8 million AAV or more per player) and 2-3 other mid-level contracts (4-7 million AAV) then that along with an additional draft class should be enough to acquire the needed improvements to the offense and patch whatever holes remain on defense. It won't be a team with Super Bowl expectations but it will be a team that on paper will carry playoff expectations. Now I don't think they necessarily need to make the playoffs but the expectations will be to take a top 5-10 defense in the league and an offense that had a lot of talent added to at least 8 or more wins. If they make the moves we think they can make on offense and they continue to draft strong and all they can come up with is a 6-10 season then I don't know how you don't replace the regime. I think if they go 8-8 or better McD gets one more season at least but 7-9 or worse that is hard to come back from given the rebuilding they sold ownership on (By 2019 they will have had the time necessary to bring in their drafts/free agents and turnover the roster.)

Everyone presumes that it is McDermott and Beane tied at the hip forever.... but I don't rule out the possibility that in 2018 keeps going south and 2019 goes badly and Allen looks way short of the standard that the Bills fire Beane, keep McDermott but massively reign in his power and bring in an experienced, older GM above his head. The name that I think will be a shock interview candidate for HC jobs is Dennis Allen. He flamed out badly as HC in Oakland, but he had an excellent reputation before that, is still relatively young and has slowly but surely done a really solid job in turning around a disaster of a defense in New Orleans. I am not sure he will get a job this offseason.... but I think he is going to get interviews. 2

Brianmoorman4jesus Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Why would anyone hire the titans offensive coordinator? People that are working with the Rams, Chiefs, Saints or Patriots offenses would make sense. Why the titans?

Their offense cannot run the ball at all despite having good backs and (albeit the injury is limiting Mariota) is sporadic in the passing game.

I asked the question around this time a year ago and identified seven candidates, three of whom ended up getting hired (Matt Nagy by the Bears, Mike Vrabel by the Titans and Matt Patricia by the Lions) and two others (John DeFilippo and Kris Richard) who received interviews. As I noted then, McVay -- a 30-year-old with three years of experience as a coordinator when the Rams hired him in January 2017 -- is a rare guy, and pretty much nobody has comparable experience at such a young age. But with the 7-0 Rams hot again, you can bet some NFL teams will be willing to look past the length of the resume (or lack thereof) if they feel they have a shot to land the next superstar head coach. The criteria here remains loose: the age cutoff is in the early 40s, and the person can't have been a full-time NFL head coach before. Here's a short list of names to remember, based on dozens of recent conversations with NFL executives, coaches, players and others close to the search process: Vikings OC John DeFilippo Saints assistant head coach/TEs Dan Campbell Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley Cowboys passing game coordinator/DBs coach Kris Richard Rams QBs coach Zac Taylor and TEs coach/passing game coordinator Shane Waldron Patriots LBs coach Brian Flores Titans OC Matt LaFleur Others to watch in coming years: Dolphins DC Matt Burke; Eagles QBs coach Press Taylor; Iowa State coach Matt Campbell; Falcons DC Marquand Manuel; Giants DC James Bettcher; Vikings QBs coach Kevin Stefanski and TEs coach Todd Downing; Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter; Chiefs QBs coach Mike Kafka; Jets OC Jeremy Bates; Packers WR coach David Raih; 49ers QB coach Rich Scangarello, run-game specialist Mike McDaniel and DC Robert Saleh; Cardinals QB coach/interim OC Byron Leftwich. Of that list the only two names that would greatly intrigue me, and I'm not saying I want them over McD (yet) but it would be: Cooter and LaFleur. If I were Denver, I'd be looking at Cooter (man, did that just sound like a 5th grade joke!).

BBills88 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 Give me a good special teams coach. The last one took us to 4 superbowls.
thebandit27 Posted October 24, 2018 Posted October 24, 2018 I was a big Kris Richard fan when McDermott was hired, and I'm still on board with him as a good HC candidate. I think Waldron's start could be rising, especially if he keeps that offense humming without Cooper Kupp.
