Namely, the Patriots have played some embarrassing defense of late. And something's not right about it.

And you can start with this: they're getting worse, not better.

Only one other Belichick team has given up more than the 95 points allowed by these Patriots in three-straight games. That was the 2005 version, which allowed 97 in Weeks 4-6 against the Chargers (41), Falcons (28) and Broncos (28). The Patriots went 1-2 during that stretch. These guys went 3-0. That's the influence of the new NFL for you.

We know how that season went. The Patriots went 10-6, had to play in the wild-card round (a whole generation of New England fans have no idea what that is) and lost at Denver in a divisional game. No one is expecting that to happen because, again, defense is somewhat optional in today's NFL. But it doesn't mean it should be going on.

It shouldn't. How it has been happening has sent some distressing signals, and Sunday was a microcosm of that.

No pass rush is the issue.. but seriously, the chiefs scored a ton and the Bears got 2 TD on short fields so as a Pats fan I’m not worried about the D that much.

Points have been scored at an all time high, everywhere but Buffalo & AZ. I'm sure a lot of teams will have similar stats. Either way I'd take the team with the better offense.

So what you're saying is that our horrible offense is gonna give New England's Defense hope, cuz we're still not scoring more than 10 points on them.

I’m not really saying anything ... it’s just the current storyline with the Pats that their defense is worse than its ever been under BB.  We all know about our offense.

The Colts also have a bad defense. How did that turn out for us?

Clearly not saying the Bills will have success. Geez. This is the story in NE.

Just sarcasm!

Unless our defense can hold them to a field goal all game, their historically bad defense won't matter.

And in reference to their "historically bad" defense, it's only comparing it to their own franchise.

Our "historically bad" offense on the other hand is bad on an actual league-wide historical level....not just our own franchise.

That’s why the thread says Historically bad defense (For Pats)

The Pats* Defense isn’t very good, but the Bills will be the tonic for them as most every other defense. A bad defense doesn’t matter much in the NFL anymore, thanks to the various rule changes. The days of an elite defense neutralizing an great offense have been legislated out of the league. My only hope is that sometime in the near future, Bills ownership takes note of this and hires their GM accordingly.

How sad this can be? Here is a MNF in Buffalo, and everyone is depressed and has given up - me too BTW for the first time in years. I hope the players take upon themselves to shine. A Win against the damn Patriots would still be sweet.

Without Josh and most likely Shady, damn this has lost of its allure

Optimism : our offense will have many 3 and outs.....more snaps for Marcia....higher probability of getting injured when you are on the field more

Problem: Marcia Braidy will be handing off more in the second half...so you have to hit her even on hand-offs
